"Into the Inferno" is my favorite episode of the entire show. Azula's unraveling descent into madness, the sheer beauty of the Agni Kai, from the animation and illustration to the choreography and music, it's simply top-tier all the way. One of the best scenes in animation history. I rank it above most of the over-the-top fights from JJK, Fate, and others. It's not the flashiest, not the most amazingly superdy-duper violent or city-destroying, but just the most creative and beautiful fight scene I've ever seen. It's poetry.

The piece of Music that plays during that fight between Zuko & Azula is called "The Last Agni Kai" because well it's the last one in the series and Zuko made them illegal after becoming firelord. I'm not sure how many other people have commented this so far, but just in case you didn't know yet- During this final fight, Zuko uses moves from every other bending style. He's basically using the strengths of each of the different elements with the powerup from the comet. He doesn't win by his own strength alone, but bringing every ally he's made to the table and using their gifts to him to beat Azula at the first moment she has ever been truly alone- no guards, no dad, no friends. There's no chance he would have been able to keep up against her straight up power and precise skill if he wasn't using every element- - the stability of earth (kicks in after 12:57) - the defensiveness of water (11:19) - the benevolence of air (he doesn't enjoy the fight, but knows it's needed. He doesn't relish the chance to win, he's doing it because he has to... and it helps that the move at 13:21 comes from Baguazhang, which is the martial art airbending is based on lol)

This show truly is lightning in a bottle. It’s just incredible on so many levels. So many bookends, peak cinema, amazing themes, top tier *everything* from animation to voice acting to sound design and beyond. There simply isn’t anything quite like it (though there are many shows that come incredibly close such as The Owl House, Amphibia, and Arcane- as a few that come to mind). Korra isn’t quite as good as ATLA, but comparing the two is a fruitless effort. It’s a show that has a lot of peaks and a lot of valleys. When there are peaks, there are *peaks*. But the same can be said of the valleys. Nonetheless, it’s a fun show to get back into the world I do recommend the comics as well. They each delve into “ATLA Worthy” Themes and High Concepts, though I do find the overall dialogue and execution to be clunky from time to time and the endings don’t always stick; but it is a great joy to be back in the world with familiar characters- even if their dialogue and behaviors do get a little clunky from time to time (the very first one, the Promise, is the biggest culprit here- but the remainder are pretty good). For me, the greatest pieces of top tier post-ATLA content (to the extent I believe some of them rival and *perhaps* excel beyond ATLA itself) are the Chronicles of the Avatar prequel books. They are - The Rise of Kyoshi - The Shadow of Kyoshi - The Dawn of Yangchen - The Legacy of Yangchen - The Reckoning of Roku (just recently released!) They are all exceptionally good. They all delve into ATLA worthy themes and are surprisingly mature despite being just “YA Novels.” Nonetheless, I highly recommend them. The authors (F.C. Yee for the first four and Randy Ribay for the Reckoning of Roku) know their Avatar lore and they are excellent at flaunting it for eagle eyed readers.

Other than the intro voiceover, the very first line in the show is Sokka saying, "It's not getting away from me this time." as he tries to catch a fish. And that's a wrap! Has to be the greatest finale of all time for me. These two last episodes are some of the best ever, both in my top 3 for this show, behind Zuko Alone. All of the characters got pretty satisfying endings, and one thing I especially like was Azula. She was so tragic to watch in these two episodes, and it really makes me feel for her every time. And what I love is that despite the show clearly humanising her, it didn't feel the need to give her a redemption arc. A villain doesn't need to redeemed or gray to still be very human and well written. It's been an enjoyable ride, been here since episode 1. Looking forward to Korra! My biggest piece of advice there, is just to try not to compare it to The Last Airbender too much, and just look at it as its own thing.

Azula was halucinating but she was actually talking to herself in that mirror, trying to convince herself that her actions are justified because shes condemned to the negativity and so she has no other choice but to live in the evil legacy she was born into just shows how much internal conflicts shes in. A true narcissist would never question their own motives. Its weird because the writers added these layers to her character for a reason and yet we never see any sympathy from any characters towards her.

I don't think it's true we never see any sympathy from characters toward her. There are moments during the show and comics where Zuko shows sympathy to her, and the final scene it looks like both Katara and Zuko have some sympathy, despite her trying to kill them seconds earlier. But it's hard to maintain sympathy when someone is constantly and consistently antagonizing you and literally trying to kill you.

@lauraw2526 Looking away in horror while someone his experiencing a mental breakdown is not exactly showing sympathy for azula character its a natural reaction to a gruesome scene. I don't have enough comments for this finale but basically: same. Aang ENERGYBENDING?! Couldn't have seen that coming. Not once. Epic. The Agni Kai sibling fight? Epic. Everything? Epic. You can now see why this show is so well regarded, even now however many years later when anime is getting better and better (even though this isn't anime). It still holds up and is so rewatchable. I think I rewatched it 2 years ago and still loved it just as much, if not more, than the first time. Regarding your thoughts on the Netflix adaptation so far. After the movie came out and DESTROYED the hope and expectations of this fandom, you can only imagine why people were so cautious and judgmental over this new adaptation. Especially hard not to compare things to the animation because, as you now know, its just that good and some things are hard to replicate in live action well. I will say, I did like the Netflix adaptation! They do a few different things here and there, somethings I liked, others, definitely not. But I don't think it's bad. Is it as good as the animation? No. But it's cool to see things come to life that way. Legend of Korra; some darker concepts believe it or not. There's a lot of butting heads over LOK or ATLA being the better show but really, while in the same world they are very different shows. Personally I love ATLA better just because of the old world setting and musical elements, etc. But now you're an official ATLA fan and can join the rest of us in using sporadic Iroh quotes to get us through tough times haha

If you'll ever get to FMA of 2003 there is an English dub with (as far as I know) pretty much the same voice actors as in Brotherhood. Also, I have a recommendation for a watch in an indefinite future. It's quite old (the first season aired in 1995), but if you ever need a simpler show for good vibes I recommend Slayers.

Thank you! This was slightly longer than my FMAB finale discussion, sorry you never got to see it, it got restricted in a few countries due to copyright :( I still have plans for FMA 2003, not sure when I'll get to it but I'd love to watch it and I'll have a look at Slayers!

13:19 not once in the whole show did Zuko firebend blue fire. I so would have loved to have seen that. Idk if anyone else would have to. But I know I would have loved it.

Just to push the nail in the coffin more to the people who dont like Katara and Aang together, get over it. 10+ years has passed, they got married and have 3 beautiful kids you get fanfics, and fanarts, and Dante spewing his nonsense to you

God, it is…so hard to watch Azula’s breakdown in chains. Not because of Azula herself, fuck her. But because of Grey. She had a lot of bad stuff in her childhood, a lot of really rough things with her mother especially, which I don’t know any details of. But to record that final breakdown, Grey knew what she’d have to do, and asked everyone else to leave the studio until she was completely alone, she sat down, and she let… _that_ …out. I think I remember hearing that there’s a lot of stuff in the recording, things that she said to her mother to get her worked up to that point, stuff like that. It was completely, 100% real, aimed at her mother and the hardship in her own life. It’s so hard for me to think about her doing that, just…picturing her sitting there, doing this…I basically don’t even see Azula in that moment anymore. It makes me cry every time.

Definitely have to check out the live action series that came out recently. Imo it’s pretty good. Some stuff here and there is kinda meh, but overall I really enjoyed it.

You should react to the Dragon fire edit of the Azula/Zuko fight

42:56 I love the new live-action show. I liked some things and others not so much. What I wanted to see did happen, which is good. But there where things that I didn't like that happened. Like putting in the cave of two lovers into season 1 when it's in season 2. I was sad when they showed that episode, because I love that episode so much, and now it's not gonna be in season 2, which sucks 😪😔 although I did had my suspicions that that episode was going to be in season 1. Because when they showed the teaser trailer video. You will see Katara and Sokka inside a dark cave holding a lamp. I just knew that it was the cave of two lovers episode. Just from that one glimpse of a photo in the teaser trailer video.

Loved your reactions and I’m very excited for your Korra reactions too. Is it as good as ATLA? No, overall probably not. But its highs are just as high. Book 3 of Korra is my personal favourite book across both series’!
