When Doc says this is funny. He always thought he would die with his boots on, and he died without his boots on.😊

I like all the brothers but Virgil's my favorite for being the first one to step up and try to restore order to the town. I like that he came to it after seeing how other people were being treated. Like the woman with the scar. He doesn't do it for personal reasons but because it's the right thing to do.

Another historical Old West town was Deadwood, here in South Dakota . . . . . South Dakota was patron to many historical events. Custer's Last Stand took place here as being one of them. Google these things in the comments and movies . . . . it is a fascinating rabbit hole of the past.

Law enforcement is a little different here. The sherrif if top law enforcement officer of the county. The Sheriff is top for a particular town or city. They are State and local officials, then there are the Federal Authorities like the federal Marshals. Then there is a smattering of other agencies that enforce the law, one being the Texas Rangers. An elite group.

Town Marshal (Virg) = City Police Sheriff (Doohan) = County Police United States Marshal = Federal Police The man that met Wyatt and tried to give him a job when he got off the Train was the US Marshall for the Arizona Territory, he was trying to hire him as a US Deputy Marshal. Wyatt took the job as US Deputy Marshal (which he initially refused) after his brother was killed.

The fight at OK Corral was accurate and the fight at the creek was too. Survivors said Wyatt went out and shot Curly Bill and Wyatt had bullet holes in his jacket but wasn’t touched. Doc had tuberculosis (they mentioned it in the beginning) and was surprised he died in a bed without boots as he was a gunslinger and thought he’d die in a gunfight.

Ike Clanton was shot in 1887 by a lawman who wanted to arrest him for cattle rustling, 6 years after the event at the O.K. Corral.

I love Sam Elliot (Virgil) and Kurt Russell (Wyatt) in anything. My favorite Sam Elliott movies are Roadhouse and The Shadow Riders though. U.S. lawmen back then (if they had them) could be a town sheriff, a county sheriff, some kind of state lawmen like the Texas Rangers on up to U.S. Marshalls. Where I live we're under the county sheriff and state jurisdiction because we live outside the actual city limits which is the police departments jurisdiction. Our address might be the same city but our somewhat rural area is too far from any of the police department headquarters.

This is my favorite Western movie. Loved Val Kilmer and Kirk Russell's roles as Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp as well.

I always thought that when doc was dying and said 'that's funny' he was referring to dying without his boots on. It was a compliment back then to say 'he died with his boots on' Anyone else? Great reaction

I love this movie it's a classic. Everybody did such an amazing job with their roles, but Val Kilmer honestly killed it. No pun intended. I really hated how everybody got so mad at Wyatt, he was the one trying to keep everybody out of trouble. His brothers are the ones who started all this crap with the Cowboys. If they had just stayed out of it, it would have been fine. Maybe.

I hope it clicked with you that the Earp brothers were real people. This is telling the most famous piece of their history, which was there time in Tombstone. Naturally, they embellished to make the movie more interesting but the shootout at the river, where Wyatt walked into the water yelling No and shot Curly Bill actually happened according to eyewitnesses accounts. This all happened in the late 1800’s, some of the people involved lived into the early 1900’s. So, it wasn’t as long ago as it seems.

In that first scenario between Ringo and Doc, Wyatt could have shot Ringo’s nuts off with that under the table shotgun as soon as he cleared leather. I ‘d love to see an alternative scene where that happens…it would be great.

You should watch the movie Wyatt Earp with Kevin Coster next. It was released the same year as Tombstone but Tombstone became the more popular of the two movies. Wyatt Earp is still really good on its own though in my opinion.

Wyatt was the one...Virgil had good intentions, although sometimes that doesn't work out. Wyatt understood that! Virgil's unrealistic ideas (not morally wrong per say) lead to an unfortunate result! Wyatt's experience as a law man...foreseeing the nasty truth and the reality of the predictable outcome was what made him the guy. Doc was a wild card....favorite character by far. Lots of reality in this movie..."normal life" Wyatt said..Doc replied " it's just life" I take that as you can't change it all...even as bad as it feels. Your feelings can/do have consequences! Morgan was the innocent brother and he died due to the (morally right) decision that Virgil made. Again may have been the moral thing but "life" isn't moral nor fair! 😊

The movie doesn't do a very good job at displaying what Tombstone, Arizona was all about. When Doc Holliday jokingly says "very cosmopolitan" he's only half-joking. On the day Wyatt Earp arrived in Tombstone, the city in question had over 15,000 people living there, which made it much larger than depicted in the film.

The Doctor says to Doc, Any breath can be his last basically. You scold his women for giving him his smokes???.... What benefit will be gained by stopping now?? He will just be feeling more miserable from nicotine withdrawal.... That is like getting a final meal before execution. So you ask for something grossly healthy because your worried about your cholesterol.... What???

Only thing that isn't real in this movie is Doc Holliday dying. He actually lived for a long time after this, but I guess they wanted the drama. Most of this is actually based on real history.
