Brilliant lesson I've been playing 40 yrs. And this really does help people understand the pentatonic. Great tool for not just up and down the scale which gets you nothing really. 🙄

After taking the Master the Fretboard workshop at Guitar Mastery Method, this kind of lesson is great! I can do these licks so much easier now that I know what's going on, and the practice over the scales they teach. This is so much fun.

Awesome! My dream is to play like SRV someday. This is the perfect exercise for a beginner like me. Stevie Ray Vaughn was the only guitar player I ever heard that could seem to make the guitar sound like it was singing. This guy uses vocals terms to describe some of these licks so I must not be the only one who thinks that. Thanks so much for this.

On lick #3 can you explain why he chose to play the first string frets 5 - 7 - 5-6-5? The A# and B is not part of the pentatonic. The lick#1 he used the blue note. In lick#2 he used the major 3rd but what was the reason for the A# and B notes? And why does lick #3 stop on the C bend up 1/4. C is the second note in A minor, right? Would it not be more natural to stop lick #3 with going back to the A note of fret 5 after the 1/4 bend? Or is it simply because of the relation Am minor and C major? Confused and so hard to learn theory, just when I start thinking I getting there, something like this happens and I feel clueless.

Hi Eddie, what's the difference between a lick & a riff 🤔🇭🇲
@Abby-yx4ff4 жыл бұрын
A riff is played throughout the song (i.e. smoke on the water) A lick is only a portion of a solo, or a riff

When I first heard John Mayer I thought SRV got reincarnated. Only an SRV fanatic could tell the difference.
@commanderthorkilj.amundsen34263 жыл бұрын
Mayer is a very accomplished guitarist, an articulate, intelligent guy who can sound like whomever he wants. But Stevie Ray was a true blues icon for the ages, the real deal. Mayer’s induction speech of SRV/DT into RRHOF, he describes the Hendrix-SRV connection well. He knows one can try and sound like SRV but there was only one Stevie Ray Vaughan.

So...are you saying nobody used the blues note or mixed major & minor pentatonics before SRV? He was a watered down Hendrix IMO.
@jeffdubuque56224 жыл бұрын
stevie had a different tone then hendrix, and he was a cleaner player.
@PaulKeil4 жыл бұрын
@John Doe That's your opinion, which you are entitled to. Hendrix is still regarded as the best blues rock guitarist that ever lived for a reason. Hendrix was a trail blazer, though even he was influenced by other guitarists, who popularised that heavy blues sound through his own invention. SRV was a great guitarist but in terms of invention he didn't do anything. Just a Hendrix copy cat.
@PaulKeil4 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarMasteryMethod I'm no expert but the trill in the second example, using the 6th fret of the G string is a note in the major A scale, therefore mixing major & minor.
