We are off to Notting Hill, and our restaurant for today is Core by Clare Smyth.
In 2012 she became Chef Patron at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, making her the first and only female chef to run a three Michelin-starred restaurant in the UK.
There are two tasting menus to choose from The classic Tasting Menu for a £195
and the Core Seasons menu for £215. This makes it one of the most affordable 3 Michelin star restaurants I’ve tried.

Quick Point. Love this channel, watch reviews while eating, makes my food taste better! Clear, concise and interesting. However, I just cant justify spending 500 pound/euro/dollars anymore on Michelin star restaurants, I walked past a queue at a food bank on christmas weekend, and i still cant get the looks on the faces of about 19 fathers who were there to feed their children for christmas. Helpless, ashamed and a look that said they felt no dignity. In 2023/2024 look at the world and teachnology and we LET it happen? Sorry for the rant, it just broke me, anyway back to the reviews, happy new year guys!!!

I were at here in 2018 all the way from Finland. We were supposed to go to dinner by Heston Blumenthal for my 18 birthday. But there was fire so they offered to book table from us from another restaurant. Core by Clare Smyth wasn,t on their recommendations, but asking them if they could book it for us it was ok. And for a bonus they got usa the chefs table for that we could see to the kitchen. Also the chefs came them self to tell us about the dishes. And Clare Smyth came to wish me happy birthday and talk to us. Also They made me a special little birthday cake with candle on top. Its to this point best restauran experience I've ever had. Watching this video brings back memories and dishes we ate. Also its interesting to watch how they have advanced in these years. Keep making these videos they are awesome!!

lol, they aren't that cheap. Firstly the price is now £205/£225, not £195/£215, I'm not sure why this is never checked before putting out the video. Secondly there is a la carte at £155/£175 lunch/dinner. This compares to Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, one of the most famous restaurants in the world, which charges..... £155/£175 lunch/dinner a la carte £205/£250 tasting Or Hélène Darroze who charges only £125 for weekday lunch, and £195/£215 for 5/7 courses

The Core Classics menu we had was not very different to the one your daughter enjoyed. Claire is just a proof that true professionals will recognize your value regardless of your gender or race. And I disagree with being voted best female chef. This is not like sports, where of course women can't compete with men, due to biological differences. She should be judged best chef. Whether you're a man or a woman should never come into play in this case. And I don't doubt Claire could get the best chef award. She's truly impressive!

I started following this channel a while back but now only managed to comment!. I used to work at a prestigious credit card company's concierge team and the restaurants you have dined and reviewed are what my clients usually would like to dine at! Anyways... I am from Sydney, Australia and while the Michelin Guide has yet to hit our shores, I had the honour of dining at Clare's other sister restaurant here in Sydney, 'Oncore'. The dishes I have had are similar to what was shown here in your review (with the exception that she sources all the ingredients locally) but I wholeheartedly agree that the food is absolutely phenominal. As a sweet tooth, I especially love the coreteaser, certainly one of my top dessert dishes to date. I'm glad to see that the experience at Core is just as high standards as Oncore (except the flip flops although funny enough that would pass fine in Australia lol). I'm heading to the UK in a few months time and I can't wait to try dining at Core! Fantastic video and review. Cannot wait to see your next work!

I do understand that wearing something nice in a top class restaurant makes sense, yet, as a paying customer, I kind of feel that I could also wear shorts and flip-flops and still express my "gratitude" (for example with a ton of money I usually leave at places like this). I wouldnt recommend wearing something like that, but in the end the restaurant is responsible for the ambiente, so if they dont want flip-flops, they would say it. As a customer, I am not responsible for how the restaurant looks like.

I've not been to Core but would love to go. I'm London based too so not really got an excuse short of you usually need to book and we have a young kid to workaround. In terms of dress code, I'm not sure I agree with you here. I'm somebody who does frequent restaurants with stars, and somebody who likes dressing down. Sure, for me it's trainers, chinos and a t-shirt, but ultimately if there is no dress code, I should feel free to wear what I like. Ultimately, that guy wearing flip-flops, his money is as good as anybody else, and he should be free to free comfortable there. That aside, I continue to greatly enjoy your videos, always click as soon as I see them. Thanks for sharing.

Food is exceptionally beautiful. But in my option the food at Core lacks depth of flavour. The tasting menu is heavily focussed on lightness - seafood, foams, etc, and at a 3 star I want some booming flavours of a 3 day jus reduction! Having eaten at many many Michelin star restaurants in London, my personal taste would take me to SOLA, Ledbury, or Bibendum before Core. Sorry. Service at Core is top notch.

Had a very different experience. I found it a bit meh. Unnatural service spending an overly long time to explain each detail of the dish (not needed to that extent). Yes it is cheaper than most 3 stars but maybe mention that in the UK they will not hesitate to run two services for each lunch/dinner, so you are also on their tempo. I remember the first time felt rushed because of it. Foodwise, top level up to the starters. Mains and desserts on par at best with some 1-star in town.

It seems you eat at a lot of different European 3 Michelin star restaurants, not that there's anything wrong with that, but I was wondering if it's possible if you could potentially try visiting some of the different 3 star restaurants, in particular, Asia? Outside of Europe, Asia has the most stars and a lot of the resturants in Macau, Hong Kong, Japan, etc. are very interesting and some I've never even heard of. The European restaurants are already very famous and have lots of reviews while the Asian 3 star restaurants are very obscure and there are lots of them. I'd love to see an experienced diner eat at a few of these restaurants and see how they compare and hold up to their European counterparts.

I am against a strict dress code. I normally wear a t-shirt and hoodie/jacket with a pair of chinos or shorts with whatever sneaker I have on hand. If you are a woman wearing a dress probably isn't that bad but as a I am not willing to risk catching a heat stroke and preparing a suit every time I travel overseas (by the time I get there I am so out of it I can't even taste the food). It is a bit ridiculous carrying a suit in a bookbag, and suitcases severely limits your mobility. I understand that you want to preserve a professional atmosphere thus I am against flip flops. edit: I apologize ahead of time if I offend you in some ways but I haven't even worn a blazer since my highschool days and has gained weight since... most people in field generally don't own "casual dining wear" and doing so will be alienating a huge group of people that can afford to visit such restaurant on a biweekly or monthly basis.

Fully agree with you on the dress code. Even though I am not the smartest dresser, when one goes out and spends an uncommonly large amount on a meal, it is a special occasion. How those around you present themselves can affect _your_ experience, and someone flip flopping their way to the bathroom just reeks of the mundane. So much effort goes into elevating the food, as a guest you should elevate yourself.

Clare Smyth kept Gordons 3 Michelin Stars for 9 years allowing him to go and do his thing. He (GR) is a brilliant brilliant cook, but he needs these great commanders too. As a decent chef myself I am past needing to be impressed by 3 Michelin Stars, I did stages at the Waterside Inn in Bray, the greatest restaurant under the finest chef, Michel Roux Senior, it will ever be my privilege to know, but cuisine moves on. However, with great luxury ingredients like Caviar, you just need to serve it. I would like to experience her cooking at Core. It's the only one now. I've eaten at Hospital Row and Monaco Louis XIV, and could never afford to pay now the extreme prices charged, especially for wines, but as a restaurateur myself, you have to make your money somewhere. Most of the staff need paying and the overheads are stupefying. Try buying 50 covers of Christofle 'Garden of Eden' Cutlery at Gordon Ramsays, the bill is more than your house.

i notice you keep ordering batard montrachet, an excellent wine to be sure - but committing infanticide nonetheless. at Eleven Madison Park you had a 17: which if i recall was heralded as being long-lived and great like '14.. then ordering '18 bm here... which i recall being rather tight but with a bright future in store. don't you feel like you're paying restaurant premium for bottles that clearly need 5-10 more years to fully develop? you might insist that you love the youthful brightness and tension of young white wine (I'm in the same boat... never met an Alsatian that wasn't best after 5-10 years as opposed to 20) but you're surely swilling down big name wines with mountains of complexity yet to emerge.... just noticing that small detail in your videos. enjoy the content, keep up the good work, and drink older wine (or go off the beaten path!)

I loved the look of the restaurant, their food, and expression. However, I don't know that I agree with your conclusion on the flip flops and cargo shorts. Though I myself would not turn up to such an establishment dressed in this fashion, our clothes have little to do with the experience. It's all just window dressing for what actually matters. Anyone and everyone no matter their own personal style should be able to experience such wonderful food, and a persons comfort should be paramount to the experience. So long as they aren't in their birthday suit imo it's fair game.

This video was amazing until the end. The comment you made about the flip flops and shorts was unnecessary. Is it really a form of disrespect? I mean, come on. How can it be considered disrespectful when the restaurant itself encourages people to come as they feel and express themselves? You're judging this person based on how they feel. Not everyone has the need to show off that they're doing well in life. Just a tip for next video don't judge a book by it's cover...

Flip flops are not a sign of disrespect. Respect is paying 500 euros in a meal, adding appropriate and generous tips and being courteous and appreciative of the staff during the meal while maintaining conversations at the appropriate noise levels. In Japan going barefoot is a sign of utmost respect.

I passed by this restaurant on Monday during a trip to London! Even though it was closed due to the bank holiday, I was shocked to realise that it is actually Clare Smyth's restaurant. And now I have the perfect video to show me what is inside. Thanks so much!

The restaurant let him in, that was their choice to let him in. I’ve been turned away from a high-end restaurant in Havana wearing a wife beater, shorts, sandals and a fedora. It was scorching hot AF down there and they still expected me to show up in my Sunday’s best.

Interesting, I have basically watched all of your videos except for this one right now and it's the most affordable. I think that the food looks tastier and less strange than the more expensive places, Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!

Yeah an old style eating outfit is generally what you should have in a UK place. When my family had an old style school house they would rent for the family to stay in. You would change into your dinning outfit.

I loved this video but what do you mean affordable? With such title we need some price examples. Nevermind, looks like I found it in the description. I would still recommend putting it in the video.

My only gripe is the chef believes in supposed "sustainability" but serves foie gras??? I guess its separate from humane.. :/

these prices sound extortionate to my russian ear but remembering that this is 2-3 days worth of minimum wage in the UK means a minimum wage worker can feasibly afford dining there for a special occasion that is actually quite impressive for a Michelin starred restaurant

Hi Alexander, I recently came across your channel about 3 weeks ago and I've been thoroughly enjoying the story telling you've been doing with these restaurants. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and tastes. On a side note a restaurant here in Munich where I live got 3 stars immediately after opening for about 6 months I believe. I'd be curious to know what your thoughts on this restaurant.
