A lot of the blue tongues where I live are pretty banged up, it does help with identifying the individuals though. This summer involved the rescue of a few from my backyard because we had a lot of native plants put in and there are loads of great sunning spots in the garden so we’ve been seeing a lot more of them. Unfortunately we have dogs and small animals are very attractive playthings to them so I’ve had to relocate the lizards before anyone gets hurt. I grew up watching Steve Irwin and wildlife docos so I can catch them fairly easily. We live right on the edge of the bush which makes releasing the blueys quick and it’s great watching them head off into the brush. I will say though that if we end up with a venomous snake in the yard I’ll call a professional in and stick to the animals that don’t have the potential to hospitalise me.

The Blue Tongue around the Blue Mountains and our local varieties are also spectacular in NSW, The Eastern Brown like the Western is also very defensive and has a reputation of being aggressive when people stumble upon them, yet if you have Red belly black snakes around they are known to eat them as part of their diet.
