Seeing it feed on thistle it's truly a prove of how nature depleted the UK is since thistle should be pretty much everywhere yet this butterfly that feeds on it struggles, we really need to let flower meadows develop

I was thinking that I see these a lot and then I see you mention my home country so it makes sense ❤.

Haha! I have never seen so many in one place, so many species of butterflies and meadows that are just perfection, along with all the scenery. You should be very proud of your country (I believe you must be already though!) every person that I met was friendly and engaging and I absolutely did not want to leave at all. I am already planning my next trip and would love to visit the area that you speak about with the forests and so many species of animals I could only dream of ever seeing. Best wishes, Joel

I can call myself blessed, I suppose, in Virginia. I have so many I just thought they were common. Up to 25 at one time on my butterfly bush

Wow, that's so good to hear Carrie. We have lost so much vital habitat over the years. So many butterflies need specific plants for their caterpillars to feed on and once they're gone, the butterflies sadly go with them. It's nice to hear that you have these in abundance and your garden clearly is a haven for them. Best wishes, Joel

Joel do you have gulf fritillaries in the UK I have them all over my garden in ft Lauderdale 😊
@Debbie-henriАй бұрын
Lovely butterfly. Don't know whether I've seen one or not, Fritillaries can look very much the same. I've certainly seen something very similar in the past, but not over the past 20 years. What I haven't seen since my young childhood (50 years), is a Camberwell Beauty). Do they still exist anywhere?

This is great. Are there lots of wildflower meadows in Slovenia then?
@Vesny8629 күн бұрын
Yes. But times are changing here too. I've seen some mow hay meadows in early May this year. Usually in the past first mowing was in June and not all areas at once. But now with big tractors they can mow a lot in a day. There is a big hay meadow near my house. It looks like there are several owners cause 1 part was mowed twice this year, 1 part recently but there is still a part that hasn't been mowed yet. So at least there is a mosaic.

I MUST come to visit your area and hopefully meet with you @Vesny86 - I wish I had seen your messages when I was actually in Slovenia. Best wishes, Joel
