JoJo Siwa and Addison Rae, two internet icons who are attempting a rebrand...one is faltering while the other is thriving...but can you guess which is which?
JoJo has a much (much, much, much) hyped new song called 'Karma', which has come complete with a wild Kiss-inspired rock and roll makeover, while Addison is being welcomed into the 'cool girl' world as her appearance on the remix of Charli XCX's song 'Von Dutch' tears up TikTok.
On this instalment of Scroll Deep, Benedict and the gang dig into both re-inventions and ask: does any of this really matter? And the answer of course is no.

What is making Addisons rebrand successful is that she isn’t forcing it. She is very quietly distancing herself from TikTok and social media to move onto things she’s actually passionate about, like music and acting. She also released her EP without forcing it onto the public with lots of promotion. Makes it come across as more of a passion project, rather than an attempt to gain a quick hit.

It literally is. She sabotaged her own rebrand for still attaching her iconic look to adulthood. I don't think she wants to be taken seriously anyway because if she was, her marketing team would ditch any hint of tween popstar vibe. The look could still work if she makes a hyperpop song though. Look at Dorian Electra and their style.

The JoJo rebrand is pretty much exactly the episode of Teen Titans Go where Starfire becomes a bad guy just to be Robin's nemesis. And the worst thing she does is drink the milk from the carton.

I think another thing that has helped the Addison Rae rebrand is that she's, like, genuinely been into cool music for a bit (from what I understand) so there's still a thread of genuineness there.

Jojo definitely needs to take a break for a while. Honestly if I was her I think I would move to somewhere remote in europe for like a year at least and maybe take some online university classes, get a minor degree. I think she might benefit from a break from society but she will still need something to feel productive. I don't think she knows how to take breaks which is so sad
