If any of these people had to buy their own groceries, they would know that all their charts and calculations don’t mean diddly squat.
@cisium1184
@cisium1184 Ай бұрын
Oh horseshit. The charts and calculations are just number-pictures of things that really, already happened. Saying they don't mean anything is like saying history doesn't mean anything - it's flippant, comfortable, and fantastically retahded. That said, no chart means everything or even most things, and what happened in the past will not necessary happen in the future. Perhaps that is what you mean? If so you're absolutely correct, but these tools are the best tools humans have devised to work with; and imperfect as they are better than summoning shamans and reading goat feces.

@@Jacob-qc8lt _"silly and long winded comment. It's in the interest of the government to under report inflation."_ I'm not following you. I didn't say inflation's being accurately reported. I said OP's broad claim that charts and calculations "don't mean diddly squat" in assessing the state of the economy is horseshit, because it is. Charts and calculations are imperfect but very useful. I mean, you get these guys (rightly) challenging the Fed's logic are also using charts and calculations, right? Where do you think the view that inflation's higher than reported comes from, if not charts and calculations? At most, you thought the word "oh horseshit" hinted at some unspoken meaning, despite the fact that my "silly and long winded comment" went on for another hundred words but never once used the word _inflation._ I have no doubt your writer's voice is addressing somebody, but I'm not him.

It's not a panic cut. 100bps is a panic cut. 50bp is a "little bit worried" cut. Its virtue is precisely the fact that it's not _clearly_ a "bad sign for the economy." That said, it's not a good sign for the economy either.
@sorcdk2880
@sorcdk2880 Ай бұрын
A 50 point cut is a signal that they cannot take it slow and spread it out in 25 point cuts while watching for the effect of it. In other words you only really see 50 point cuts when the cut is urgent, and it being urgent to cut rates is an indicator that there are signs that the economy would not like it if they wait with those cuts. One thing to realise is that the idea of cutting rates is to boost the economy by effectively more money flow into it, which in principle should help pick things back up. It is basically an "get us out of a recession" kind of thing. The problem is that recessions often work through negative spirals that can easily accelerate, and they tend to accelerate a lot before the effects of the rate cuts really kick into gears, which then fuels a recovery of the economy. In a sense, it is the high rates that have in part caused the recession or recession like state we are looking at, and the actual problem is whether they waited so long with cutting rates that it did end up creating a full blown recession, or whether the effect can be contained and there were not other causes to generate such a recession.
@RickOregon
@RickOregon Ай бұрын
@@cisium1184 i would bet money there is another cut by mid October and another a week before the election. So they can say everything is great! Look what Biden/Harris have done for the country. @RickOregon

@@sorcdk2880 For the most part I agree. What I see is artificial propping of the economy with the hope that improvement can be sustained but there is nothing to support it in the long run. If the rates went to 0% it wouldn't be enough at this point.

IMO Jerome and Co. have no clue how the economy "works". All they see are inputs and outputs. What goes on in between is a mystery to them. "Let's try this and see what happens" is their "policy". When I see someone called an Economist or Expert, I run the other way.

The feds need to cut rates far more than 50 basis points. We need the mortgage interest rates to come down to 3.5% again and that would make Homes affordable for most people again. Feds have to do a better job.

It should be noted that while we have inflation right now, it’s fully carried by housing. In the last month, all other categories are flat or deflating. But housing is so high that it’s showing a net inflation

Here is the kicker folks the amount of money on the street never goes down, in fact they print more every year. So all we have to look at is where did the money go? If regular people are broke and in debt and the top people are getting richer, there is your answer.
