Before we moved to the region I had never heard of one of West Virginia's Best Kept Secrets! In this video, we’re mountain exploring West Virginia. Specifically, we’re in Pocahontas county West Virginia, on a West Virginia mountain highway, on one of those good ole’ Appalachian Mountain Roads. You’re going to love it. We bump into Snowshoe Mountain West Virginia, and drive around the Shavers Fork Mountain Complex. Spring Season Snowshoe West Virginia is fantastic!

Great video, as always, Bill and Caroline. I don't ski and have never been to Snowshoe but it is gorgeous. On one of our family vacations (back in the 70's) we visited various places in WV, Cass Scenic Railroad was one of them. We rode the train and it was absolutely breathtaking. WV really has a lot more to offer than people give it credit for.

Hi Bill, thanks so much for your honest and sincere videos. I'm a native of Southern WV and it is an amazing place. I will be going to Snowshoe because of this video. I've been to Cass and will return soon. Be sure to check out the New River Gorge and Bluestone dam in Hinton. Keep up the good work! And by the way, being here IS like being out West!

You know, we just moved back to Chattanooga from Virginia. We lived in Harrisonburg Virginia, about 20 or so minutes from the WV state line on 33. We miss West Virginia like the whole state was family or something. It's special. Don't get me wrong, we love the Tennessee Valley. I'm grateful God called me back to Chattanooga. But visiting West Virginia as often as we did was awesome. Every time I thought we had it figured out, we'd turn a corner and find something new, and that's just the things you can drive to!

Bill, another great video. Having grown up in VA (Salem/Roanoke), we spent a lot of time hiking/backpacking in VA and WVA. Another beautiful area not too far away from where you were is the Cranberry Wilderness. BA

Ahh yes. My grandparents took me to cass as a child. Wonderful memories. Kilt a uuuge rattlesnake on the way( whole nother story ) or maybe that was one of the huckleberry picking trips...anyway West Virginia does hold many a fond memory even if it is in West Virginia ...great footage

I was curious about the elevation of Snowshoe Resort. It's at 4,848 feet. I knew it was high since our elevation in the far Southeast area of WV is 2,800 feet. Pocahontas County gets a lot more snow than we do since their elevation is so high.
@BillMarion
@BillMarion 4 жыл бұрын
The elevation is high, and that has a to do with it. But it also has to do with the way typical cold air flows down from Canada. Spruce Knob is the same way. In fact, I live in Harrisonburg VA, and Spruce Knob creates a "Rain Shadow" over this area. The west side of the Spruce Knob gets more rain and snow than the east side of the mountain, and that changes our weather here. Crazy! Thanks for watching!

Love the video..Hate the stick built hotels against the mountain backdrop..Should of built a more rugged lodge..

We haven't seen the inside. We were supposed to make plans to be there in March. Those plans obviously got cancelled. But I don't know where we were going to stay. The view from the lodges is pretty amazing. I'm guessing it's timeshare. Honestly, I'm not really sure. Regardless, I don't think they're going for "rugged." Regardless, thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting! Bill

@@BillMarion Great video and just subscribed! Snowshoe is a special place as I have been visiting there since the early 80s. Some additional info. since I am a homeowner on the mountain, all units are privately owned and there are no timeshare units on the mountain. This is one of the best locations on the east coast IMO. I cannot wait to go up in late July!

@@f150ninthgen Wow! Great information Ryan! For two winters straight we've tried to get there but something always comes up. So, when you're trying to "book" through the website, is that hotels we're looking at? Or is it privately owned places being rented out by a management company? Would love to visit this next winter! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting! Bill

@@BillMarion Thanks for the positive video on Snowshoe. All of the condo complexes that you saw on your visit are privately owned that are either rented privately or by the resort. There is only 1 hotel type property on the mountain. If you book through the resort website you would be staying at any one of those complexes but you can request a certain complex such as in the village, etc. For example, my condo is on the Snowshoe rental program so the resort books my unit out so I do not have to worry about it. When you go up this winter go mid week to avoid crowds and you will have better snow!

The commentary and music issue is because of the wind in most places. I need an external mic! ***EDIT*** I realized after I originally left this reply that there was voice over in this video. I'll look into that. ***End edit*** However, I'll fix the commentary going by too fast. I was thinking in some of my other videos the commentary was too slow. But I'll fix it! Thanks for letting me know!

@@markszyszkiewicz Well, if you go, I hope you're able to do more than we're able to do. We're not really able to hangout in 99% of the places we visit. Packing food, and seldom if ever staying overnight. So, that means a lot of 24-36 hour turn-arounds. But this one wasn't too bad. Besides, it's always great being in the mountains.
@BillMarion

@@markszyszkiewicz We also need to talk about why you're not getting notifications. I'm clueless. You comment all the time, and you're very involved with the channel. The way I understand it, if someone has subscribed (and clicked the bell) AND made comments, then they're going to receive notifications. It's odd, because sometimes, your comments are listed in my "spam" folder, and I have to approve them. Which is strange. But, it's been my experience that most of the time it's not a "grand conspiracy" or anything like that Usually, it's as simple as a setting that's been changed on either my part, or yours. Regardless, I'll contact KZbin.
