Being in my 30's and a rock fan who is slowly witnessing all of her idols grow too old to perform or die, when I discovered this band, with guys that are my age, I had such a surge of emotions mainly summarized as "YEEEEEEEEEEEES , ROCK IS NOT DEAD!!!!!!!". I realize some young people don't even know what it feels like to go to a show where the music is created LIVE: just the musicians, the audience, no gimmicks, pure skill. The growing energy that builds up and explodes by the end of the show... there is NOTHING like a rock concert and these guys give me hope that we can still revive the genre. Never apologize for emotions. I like your reactions because you show them. 🙂 It's amazing how disciplined the Japanese audience is and how much they respect OOR. Despite 30 seconds of silence, you don't hear anyone shouting, whistling etc. It was a beautiful, emotional performance from Taka. He was sick during the concert and even apologized to his fans on Instagram because he wasn't happy with his performance. I think he did an amazing job. BTW, he also took the break during older performances of this song when Chester was still alive. What you should react to next depends on what kind of song you want to hear. For their heavier songs with some screams, you can listen to "One by One", "Take me to the top", "Deeper Deeper" or "Liar". If you want something with orchestra, then "I was King" or "Stand Out Fit In" would be a good choice (although for "Stand Out Fit In" I would actually watch the music video). Definitely recommend either The Beggining or Clock Strikes One Ok Rock can be pronounced either one ok rock or one o' clock, both are correct and they refer to themselves as both. For some background around that, their original band name is One O' Clock, because they used to book a room in a music studio at 1am to practice because it was cheaper. Due to the way the japanese pronounce english words they wrote the band name as One Ok Rock, as that would sound closer to One O Clock when pronounced by japanese people. However overseas Taka and the other guys in the band refer to themselves as One Ok Rock. So honestly either or go, you can reffer to them with whatever is more comfortable for you.

Here’s a fun fact. After Chester’s passing, linkin park invited Taka to come singe Chester’s parts in one of there concert. There’s a video of Taka singing somewhere I belong with linkin park. He also sings a duet with the current lead singer of journey arnel Pineda of open arms after Steve Perry stepped down. Also has a jaw dropping cover of Adele’s hello. Never apologize for your emotions, OOR has a way of reaching out and hitting you in the feelings. One of the songs that hits me deep in the feels because of how I connect to it, is the music video of 'Stand Out, Fit In'. As for their name, it's a play on the way the Japanese pronounce English words. They used to practice at 1 o'clock in the morning because it was cheaper. The way it's pronounced in Japanese is "Wan Oku Rokku", and the name stuck ever since. Either way is perfectly fine to pronounce their name.

Pretty sure I mentioned to you on your first reaction video that if people request this song or if you react to it that someone will mention that the silence near the beginning is a tribute to Chester, and I said that that info is false. It's just a rumor that spread in the comments on KZbin. They've been doing the pause since before Chester passed. Though a dedication to Chester sounds nice and all, it's just a creative choice in this case. The theme of this song (letting go of a bad relationship) isn't something they'd dedicate to someone they respect. They were on tour when Chester passed away and as tribute, they replaced "Hard to Love" on their set with a cover of "One More Light." And please feel free to call the band "one okay rock." It honestly sounds really awkward referring to them as "one o'clock" when speaking English. Even Taka calls them "one okay rock" when they're overseas.

@@Xia-hu It's the people who prefer the "one o'clock" pronunciation who usually make a big deal about the pronunciation of the band's name. I call the band "one okay rock" when I'm speaking English, and "one o'clock" (though more often ワンオク) when I'm speaking Japanese.

About the pronunciation of the band's name: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4WkcqCebrOBa5Y In this interview they say their name several times in Japanese, e.g. at 1:34-1:35, 2:35-2:36 or 2:41-2:42. It sounds like "one o'crock" or "one o'cruck". But as already mentioned by others, they introduce themselves as one ok(ay) rock outside Japan. Getting the Japanese pronunciation right is not that easy, so I think it's better to stick with the English pronunciation for non-Japanese speakers.

If you are into emotional music, check out X Japan's rock/metal ballads. :) They were big in the 80s, early 90s and they are basically one of the godfathers of Japanese rock and metal. This song is called Endless Rain and it is performed at their last show before they broke up cuz the singer was recruited into a religious cult that told him not to sing rock music ever again. They reunited in 2007 but haven't really done anything since then.
