The people in the audience are not professional singers. There are a thousand eighteen-year-old students from all over Japan. Who were chosen to be part of this choir, to celebrate the coming of age in Japan. They rehearsed individually in their cities, then rehearsed only three times together, before recording with the band. These are students, who are preparing to enter the job market or college. Historically, it is a time of great pressure on these young people, and many feel disillusioned or tormented by the expectations of society. This song was written by the band's vocalist, to encourage young people to follow their own dreams, and not let themselves be erased by adults.

@@dicodec to add another note. This project also happened right after Japan lowered down the voting age from 20 to 18. In a longer video, OOR talked about how these 18 year-old youth can contribute and be responsible to the society despite being considered too young by some adults. And just a trivia, they started the band when they were 18 as well.

Japan's work culture is one of the harshest, if not THE harshest, in the world. This song means a lot to me, and I'm just a Uni student from Sweden. I can only imagine the struggles a young adult in Japan has endured.

Their not an album band. They've said that their albums are basically invitations to come see them. They mainly are a live band which is why it always sounds better live

I really laughed by Alan’s reaction! This show was made in 2017 to encourage teenagers (especially 17~19) by a broadcasting station called NHK, which is the most serious and cleanest one in Japan. That’s why this show is really clean and looks full of hope haha I loved it! I watched live on TV Anyway your recommendation was awesome! Keep it up~

Awesome! That's really cool had heard something like that from my siblings who are huge fans. That's so dope!
@MsGaijinSyauqi3 жыл бұрын
@@dicodec to be exact, it is to encourage those teenagers as Japan just passed a new law a year before to allow 18 years old to vote. Some public made harsh statements saying that those 18 years are still too young and irresponsible. This is where OOR encouraged these youths and refute the critics by saying that even adults can act irresponsibly and childish.

The "We Are 18 Fes ver." used in this reaction video was originally a 1 hour and 15 minute TV special program that aired in Japan, but I was lucky enough to record it when it was rebroadcast on January 16, 2021. Of all the "We Are" songs, I really like the "18 Fes ver." because it has a great video of a large chorus group of 1000 17-19 year old boys and girls, the "fifth member"!

I'm with Eric - forget about what our fave genres might be - this performance and event are great - and tear-jerking. Glad this kinda won Alan over by the end. I went to see these guys when they toured US almost 3 yrs ago - just to get a J-pop/rock fix to tide me over. I was blown away by how entertaining and professional their performance was - and they can rock when they want to!

I LOVE this band and this song! It should be required listening for all young people! With Japan having one of highest suicide rates in the world, especially in teenagers, I feel songs like this are sooo needed so kids don't feel "hopeless", that there are people out there who care and will help. Lol, I cry every time I watch this, thinking back to my teen years. (I'm 64 now), and you are my favorite Dimash reactors and hope you will some day react to my favorite band, X Japan! Old ladies can still rock, lol!
I just watched this a couple hours ago on Vimeo since you mentioned it was blocked in your My First Story Video 😄. Glad they released it. Hopefully you can do more even if you don’t completely dig them. I’ll go ahead and recommend Jibun Rock again.
