The minister is correct in saying our issue is not the size of the debt. He's also correct in that our challenge is our (in)ability to service this debt. The US has a debt-to-GDP is 107% last I checked. Their advantage? Their debt is in dollars, thus 1:1.

The Electricity Minister gave the false impression that the proposed new build nuclear power plant will be Eskom/State owned. It turns out, from the Finance Minister here that this particular project will be privately owned and Eskom/the State will only develop purchase agreements after completion of such construction. Basically, the new build nuclear power plant will be a privately owned IPP funded directly by the State (tax payer) the same way they did with the solar power plants.
