How convenient the stretch went on the straight grain and the stripes were going cross grain. I call that getting the elevator! (😉) Very cute shorts.

I agree! I definitely prefer the vertical stripes, especially on my lower half!

That fabric reminds me of stretch bengaline, more in lengthwise than crosswise. I made a pair of slack and cut them in crosswise grain. They were great, until I lost a lot of weight! Lol! I remember Nancy Zieman using elastic to interface waistbands in skirts and pants, guessing you could do that for linens, too? She didn’t stretch it out but it did give it some give. I did it in a loosely woven coven many years ago, I loved that skirt. I wasn’t too sure about this pattern, but you’re bringing me around! Like you did with the Cielo, and the Rhapsody, and .....have a great weekend.
@TomKatStitchery3 жыл бұрын
Elastic works as well for just that purpose. In fact, I’m currently wearing a pattern test pair of pants (to be seen soon) that used the elastic to stabilize. It’s such a good idea to keep your pants up 😂!

Hi Whitney. You mention using a curved waistband if you are more curvy. Do you have a video on how to draft a curved waistband? Love your videos. I'm going to have to make these pants now! Thanks.
@TomKatStitchery2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a video on how to do that, but I could definitely film one! If you are needing a quick tutorial, I know Sian from Kittenish Behavior (here on KZbin) has a tutorial!

God's blessings to you and yours for sharing your knowledge. If you scoop out the seat of the pattern ( avoid a wedgie) will that cause the seat to be tighter?
@TomKatStitchery3 жыл бұрын
While it would seem that it would make the back smaller, it actually does the opposite. Pants are counterintuitive when it comes to fitting, especially the crotch area. To make them smaller, you’d actually add fabric to the crotch area.

Good morning Whitney, Nice shorts! I have to get cracking and make some also. I think I might get a summer capsule from Your Everyday Style to give it a try. I always have grief over locking the fly with the grown on fly. Would you mind showing us how you do that on your next pair? Thanks!!
@TomKatStitchery3 жыл бұрын
I can definitely show how I do that!

Cute shorts, Whitney! The fabric is nice, and I'll bet you do find lots of things to wear with them ... that aren't black! Your discussion on proportion was helpful - I had to laugh when you said there needs to be space between our boobs and waist :) I found that out on Easter, had a new bra and don't you know my Ruffle Sleeve top (Peppermint Magazine) fit beautifully!!! Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend!

Oh my gosh those shorts look sooooo cute on you!! I definitely am inspired now to try this pattern. I have made the Pomona shorts and I love them so much! Have you made those? I'd love to hear how they compare fit wise in the hip and leg.

I have been tempted by that pattern as it looks so great for the warmer weather.
@katehampshire84103 жыл бұрын
It looks an interesting pattern but would you be able to do a flat butt adjustment to it without also altering the front?
@TomKatStitchery3 жыл бұрын
I would cut the pattern at the side seam notch, do your adjustment and the tape them back together.

Hi, Whitney - Love both the shorts and your wide leg version. Do you think these pants would look good if I put them 1” below the waist and added a curved seam allowance? Edited: Oh my gosh, I didn’t realize you were going to talk about it 😂. I’ve mentioned before that you and I have similar issues except I have an hourglass figure...plenty of hips. I usually wear my pants 1” below my waist and do the front tuck on tops. It makes a big difference because there’s maybe 3 1/2 in from my waist to boobs. My legs are very long for my 5’ “ height. I buy petite jackets & tops which I just figured out a few years ago. I have to hem most of my pants because petites don’t work for me.
