The manga makes it clear that Kuina died, and in the anime, they have scene of her funeral precision, with her body. In my opinion, I think this was added to show just how easy it is for someone to pass away without a reason, and without fulfilling their dreams. Also the sensei is her father. They don't really establish that for some reason in this adaption.
@raveoreynolds6049 Жыл бұрын
Well it's not for "some reason". When you have limited time as the LA does, throwing in information like that without expanding upon it, would only confuse new viewers.
@NovatheDestined Жыл бұрын
@@raveoreynolds6049 I mean, I don't really think saying "my daughter Kuina has passed away" would've confused anyone. If anything, the word "sensei" would be more confusing and yet Zoro uses it. To non-Japanese speaking/non-manga/anime viewers, they would have no idea what that word is, compared to the words daughter/father. We have time for Coby to show up in an Arc that he was never part of in the anime/manga, but we don't have time to say that Kuina's father is the one who gave Zoro her sword?
@icefox94 Жыл бұрын

@@NovatheDestined idk what world you live in where someone doesn't know what "sensei" means. It's practically an English word at this point. Going out of his way to say that she's his daughter is unnecessary information in that scene that really wouldn't add anything to it. Plus there are other opportunities for future flashbacks that can explain it.
@yuukinoyuki9064 Жыл бұрын
I mean, the manga made it more clear than the Live Action in the sense that they used the word "dead." But with the way Oda explicitly shows deaths in flashbacks it always kind of sat wrong with me that we didn't watch Kuina fall down the stairs and get stabbed. I don't think she's alive. Tashigi is likely just her cousin or something. But I also wouldn't be completely blind-sided if turns out she didn't die.

Like people in the colonial times, they were forced to grow up fast. (And just to pre-empt the obvious: Luffy, for all his smiles and laughs, is also someone who accepts the transience of life and the dangers of his lifestyle.) I dont think in the show will explore Kuina death further so ill explain what happens in the manga/anime since its also vague but not as vague as the show made it. In the anime/manga is hinted that the accident was that she fell down the stairs with her sword. Kuina and Zoro fought 2000 times and he lost to her everytime. Had that talk and then Zoro challenge her to a dual with real swords(they fought with the fake ones) and the next day their sensei(Kuina's father) lets him know she died from an accident falling down the stairs. These has spawn a bunch of theories because of how vague her death is but the main thing people believe is that she fell down the stairs with her sword.

@@MouhZZ🚨 *SPOILER BELOW* 🚨 So in the anime/manga the reason we came to know of her death is "She fell down and died with her sword" but what we don't know is exactly how. So Shimotsuki Kuina is the granddaughter of a great swordsmith Shimotsuki Kozaburo, who left Wano illegally and reached East Blue and founded the Shimotsuki Village where we later met Kuina and her father and of course Zoro. And the swords Wado Ichimonji and Enma both were forged by Shimotsuki Kozaburo, which are both cursed swords. Wado Ichimonji became the family heirloom of the Shimotsuki Family but because of the curse no ordinary user could wield that sword and it took a heavy toll on the user who would want to use the sword to its full potential by using Haki. Only a very strong Haki user could wield this sword someone like Zoro and because Kuina wasn't strong enough the sword took her life. That's the gist of it.

the sad thing about the syrup village arc, that you picked up on, is that it feels a little too rushed on the kuro luffy fight. In the source luffy was outclassed completely by kuros speed, and was vulnerable to his blades so was taking a lot of injuries while he was trying to figure out how to win the fight, and it felt more satisfying when he finally beat him. Hopefully in the next season they'll have a little more budget to allow for a couple more episodes to allow the critical scenes to breathe just a little more.
@R3_dacted0 Жыл бұрын
Budget is obviously a consideration, but I think the biggest hurdle is runtime. Covering so much content over the span of 8 episodes is a difficult task and that means that some scenes need to be condensed, unfortunately. But I do agree, hopefully they can expand the number of episodes so that they can highlight some of the fight scenes more.

DEFINITELY would have ruined the moment they tried to build up. At least in the manga, the line was more so something told to him the moment it happened so we were able to get that information organically to where it didn’t feel comedic.

Kuina death is a key part of zoro's drive to be the greatest swordsman in the world. Kunia is the rival who always beat him so if he becomes the Greatest Swordsman in the world it means Kuina is the greatest Swordswoman in the world because he never beat her so forever in his mind she is better than him.

You should really try the anime after this. The live action captured the essence of the anime very well, but the details in anime elevates the stake and emotions of these scenes to a legendary extent!

About Kuina's death, in the source material it was also said to be an accident. But a prominent fan theory is that she died by suicide. No one could tell Zoro, as he was a kid, naturally. But yall are right, no body seen means there is hope!
@aurum6664 Жыл бұрын
Suicide? The theory i know is that she was killed by her dad lmao what different sides of theory
@crimsonfricker Жыл бұрын
A terrible fan theory at that. If true, that just destroys her character entirely. The scene where they made a promise to each other was meant to be hopeful but she would just unalive herself the day after? That's just stupid. It would make much more sense if she was killed by someone else considering her lineage. Maybe some crazed swordsman went in and demanded a powerful sword and Kuina became a victim because she was wielding a Meito sword. Koushiro would then deal with the swordsman and retrieve the sword on his own and tell Zoro it was an accident so that he wouldn't grow up fueled by anger because some nutjob killed his best friend. It might sound more plausible but I still prefer the original. She might be more skilled with the sword but she isn't a tank like Zoro. I believe that falling down the stairs was really fatal for her.

get ready for the running gag of zoro always getting lost cuz he sucks at directions, just never gets old also, regarding that white sword of zoro, it is the highest-grade sword that zoro is wielding currently, its a named sword (Meitō), its one of the 21 great swords (Ō Wazamono) and the sword is called "Wadō Ichimonji" meaning roughly "Straight Line through the Path of Harmony"

In the original show, they say more that her dad is the sensei, and she heard him say she will never have the dojo because she can't be the greatest as a girl, so that explains a little bit more her frustration as someone who trains something every day since as a child and could even beat adults as a child, but will never be enough to her dad no matter what she does.

kuina died from falling from the stairs (which is ngl like the most mundane death you can have in one piece) and we were shown her body in the manga so she is definetly dead.

Yeah, I think that Kuro's claw gloves were the only real problem I had with the season's special effects/costuming. In the anime/manga they were full-size swords - I understand why they didn't do that in the live-action, since the weight would have been a possible issue, but maybe it would have looked better.
@adamlewis5700 Жыл бұрын
Kuina's death was very vague in the anime as well, but the manga, I believe spelled it out more clealry. The circumstances of her death are always debated though. Did she fall down the stairs, commit suicide, and some even said her father (the master) killed her (which I find hard to believe).

Some context relating to Zoros flashback. Zoro and Kuina had 2000 matches and Zoro lost every single one. Their match with real swords was their 2001st match. Kuina died falling down the stairs. Back when Zoro and Luffy met, while in the live action, Zoro mentions a promise, in the manga and anime he doesn't. My favourite translation of his line goes something like. Zoro: "I shall become the world's greatest swordsman! So famous, even the Heavens will hear of my great name!"
