You know I thought the same exact thing and the thing it made me think back to most was Luffy's fight against arlong. Like in all regards aside from size quite honestly I would say that Arlong looked more monstrous and yet I felt more dread at the beginning of the Luffy versus kaido fight than I ever could have in the fight against Arlong because the animation Back Then wasn't necessarily bad but whenever Luffy hit him there was just basically nothing aside from his arm moving towards him and then away from him so it really felt like he was doing nothing more than essentially shooting spitballs at him rather than actually being someone who is very strong and was hitting him with the attacks that were packing quite the punch but arlong just being stronger than those attacks or rather Arlong not being affected by those attacks.

Basically using the fact that anime is Anime and you can make your animations look however you want including a guy's face looking like it's getting massively deformed even though in actuality is fine to really just hit home the force of your character's attacks and the strength of their opponents to survive them with such ease
