Great video! It actually really put my worries at ease. Even a year later from that whole Joyboy chapter, I still get really anxious that everything's gonna amount to Luffy being the chosen one and thats that. But man, based on this video and the kinda writer Oda is, it just doesn't feel like One Piece. Which is precisely why I believe even in the worst case scenario. Oda will pull it off in the most One Piece way possible. This whole video reminds me of that Luffy quote at the start of Little Garden. "She's not deciding...the course we take!" As he smashes the log pose, or more metatextually, the idea/path of the chosen one.

The chosen's one trope is overused to the point of being boring. One Piece , in large part Was special because it didn't rely on Luffy being the ultimate this demon of that. He was just a dude , with an average devil fruit he used Really well. He was unique , lovable and overall interesting , a refreshing break from every other shounen , where the main character is just destined to succeed because they are "chosen." He would have succeeded because he deserved it. However Now , he was the chosen one from the start , the man with the strongest mytical zoan fruit who was somehow still rather weak for 1,000 chapters. Someone extremely underwhelming despite being gifted the most "ridiculous power". He made the least of something good , instead of making the most of something bad. This didn't ruin one piece or anything. However , I do belive it killed a lot of its charm , a lot of what made it truly special. Now luffy is just another naruto. Another Deku , another Meliodas. He is now standing in that endless line of main characters who were oh so special , oh so unique that sometimes you can't tell them apart. I honestly never , for the decade I've read one piece ever considered dropping it. Now I am. I'm sure it will still be good , Oda's a fantastic writer but this Really killed the magic for me.

The least of something good? The fruit itself is still the rubber fruit without its awakening. Its not at all good compared to other fruits we've been shown throughout the story, So he did indeed make the most out of something bad instead of making the least of something good. Another thing, he has always had that happy go lucky personality. We see it in the bar right before he eats the fruit, so it doesn't take anything away from him as a character. "He was just a normal guy" yup, Completely normal guy who's the grandson of "the hero" garp and son to "the most wanted man in the world" who also happened to have a ridiculous constitution partly because of his upbringing and also partly due to his bloodline. Someone who also inherited an insane aptitude for Haki from his family. Just your average Joe. What exactly does this reveal take away from Luffy? Had the fruit been with anyone else it would have been a funny yet ultimately useless power, like buggy's. Luffy made the fruit work. It also didn't alter his personality much, if at all. You give someone else kurama, and they'd still be a major player in the world of Naruto even without being the reincarnation of some demi-god. If you give both kurama and the special chakra from being a reincarnation, that person would have a high likelihood of being just as powerful as Naruto, even if they didn't train as hard. Even then, they'd probably only be slightly weaker. You give the average Joe the gum-gum fruit, and they'd honestly be more likely to have ended up as some kind of entertainer rather than anything relating to combat.

@@Aaayyyeeee214 No the fruit has at No point been the rubber fruit. It has always been a mytical zoan. The gorosei just call it a mytical zoan with a total of 0 clues that it has awakened. Also , we don't know how someone else would use it. For all we know , they'd be literal gods with it , which is the more likely scenario. Even basic ass fodder characters can manage devil fruit awakenings. Four out of the Five fodder jail beasts of impel down are Literally awakened zoans. And those are Damn near nameless characters.

If that truly were the case, the World Government and the Void Century never would've happened since we know from Zunesha Joyboy was the original user and the only other person next to Luffy who successfully awakened it so if the fruit was truly broken Joyboy could've defeated the 20 kings back then. He may have one of the strongest fruits, but it certainly isn't the strongest nor is it overpowered.

@@casper2694 You should really start reading One Piece, instead of trying to tell anyone about it online. Literally Kaido himself explains why you're wrong blatantly in recent chapters. No matter how good a devil fruit is, it won't get you to the top by itself. Just read the text of the manga, that by itself explains this. He has the strongest mytical fruit arguably by a good chunk from what we've seen so far. Piercing any defense, and a massive defence boost that resists EVEN Conq infusion. Literally no other devil fruit is capable of this, not just zoans. He can control lightning and generate fire(Arguably make lightning too.) Almost certainly the strongest fruit in the show and I don't see much competition for it at the moment, even amongst All devil fruits period.

Even though I think toki's prophecy said some chosen one will come to wano in 20 years to free it, I can bet that Oden told her to say this, because it links somewhere to the world history. We can still keep faith that oda pulls off joyboy being the most ridiculous person, who is as unique as luffy before the reveal(instead of some godly deity ascended to the earth below by rebirth)...

There's many kinds of major extremes one can talk about: The strongest (kaidou's, kizaru's or hell, even lucci's fruit), quickest, slickest, ultimate(Ope ope no mi), most destructive (White beard's), blah blah blah. In a way, luffy having the most ridiculous power doesn't mean he's the most chosen person in the current timeline or what.

It is the Nika fruit change (which was barely foreshadowed) which makes Luffy 'the chosen one'. And adds a huge plothole of the WG not pursuing Luffy since he has the fruit.

@@Maybepm yes plot hole where the wg not pursuing. brother did not watch water 7, impel down, marineford, sabaody and return to sabaody. Litterally in marineford the world government stops everything after aces death to go for luffy. They even sent kuma to completely wipe them out after thriller bark. Nika fruit was foreshadowed HEAVILY in skypeia to the point where there were theories about it like 8 years ago. gear 5 legit links every theme of the story together: inherited will, the tide of the times, peoples dreams. That is the whole entire theme of luffy and the devil fruits, they willed in powers created by peoples dreams from long in the past.
