Making people think he was Garps daughters. However artistically he actually looks a lot like Garp, give him eyebrows and hair style along with his beard and boom same dang face. Regarding the jimbei/fishmen race topic, while it may seem natural, from an American cultural context, to see it as analogues to the history of slavery in the US, it isn't from practically any other context. As an European I never once thought it was a direct analogy or that jimbei/fishmen were supposed to be African Americans specifically. I always thought jimbei was east Asian and fishmen were just a stand in for any oppressed/minority group. Slavery too isn't something only black people faced historically, in many parts there weren't any black slaves at all because black people didn't live in or near those regions. History is a lot longer timeframe than from the 17th century until today and european/American history is but a sliver of what humans have lived through. Also the gear 5th activation might have a connection to the cultural context as well, after all death an rebirth are prevalent themes in Buddhism and if I remember correctly enlightenment too is related to death. With luffy in gear 5th taking the form of a god it might make sense looking at it through a Buddhist framework.

Yes, but Kaido says this after he has already transformed into his giant flaming dragon form. It doesn't imply that Kaido can dodge or flee, it just establishes that he has opted to go all in on his own giant transformation. If people want to push the hypothetical that Kaido should have just transformed back into hybrid form and ran away after he freed himself with his flame dragon form then we could just go in head canon circles and say that Luffy could have just deflated his bajarang gun and not used it once Kaido escaped, but Oda obviously isn't going to write every single possibility out. The main trend I see is that people keep trying to come up with hypotheticals to say Luffy should have just lost instead of just looking at what Oda actually chose to write, which was that Kaido factually could not escape until Kaido chose to use his own giant finishing move, which Luffy then overpowered.

Kaido took some noticable big hits at the beginning esspeacilly from law, kid, and zorro while also lifting whole onigashima which was slowed down by momo Luffy got knocked out multiple times and got a asspull food health replenishment once in order to continue fighting Kaido lost, but by no means this was a true 1 v 1 Luffy vs Katakuri for example was alot closer to a 1 v 1

Throughout the fight with Kaido we see Luffy enjoying himself more and more to the point where he openly states he is having fun and can’t stop grinning. He is in a fight to the death with the world’s strongest creature and he’s having FUN. And in the bigger picture keep in mind that he is doing all of this in order to fight for the people of Wano’s freedom. Luffy both experienced his own freedom and joy and also fought for the freedom and joy of other people even to the point of death, and that’s what made him worthy of Gear 5

I feel like Kaidou using his flames to carry an entire island is being undersold as a feat here. When Kaidou grew weak, the flame clouds grew weaker too. I don't know what that means, but doesn't that imply Kaidou's strength was tied to the flame clouds in some way? As in him growing weaker also weakened the flame clouds, which implies that he sustained the flame clouds through his strength. Can't think of why him growing weaker would impact the flame clouds if it weren't directly draining his strength to sustain them. It's a mcguffin to make the main villain feel like a threat for sure, but the issue is it likely means carrying the island was draining his stamina, as the flame clouds grew weaker when he grew weaker.

I think it probably was draining his stamina, but I don't think it changes how strong he was. That is to say, even if he wasn't using the flame clouds, I think that only increases his stamina, and he would still lose that final clash to luffy. If the flame clouds were draining enough that he was actually weaker than what he should be, I think oda would have mentioned it in the same way he mentioned greenbull having to hold back for the celestial dragons sake when Morley was hitting him.

It only means one thing, which is that the flame clouds reflect how much health Kaido has left. It doesn't inherently mean that the flame clouds are draining Kaido's strength. You could argue that perhaps it means it's "possible" they may be using Kaido's strength, that is a fair thing to initially speculate, but that speculation doesn't mean anything if it is later clearly proven to not be the case. We literally get to see whether that initial speculation is true or false because it's actually put to the test in the manga: Kaido's flame clouds are turned off, and it is shown to make no difference on his strength. That's it, there's no more argument after that. The initial assumption readers made, that maybe the flame clouds are draining Kaido's strength, is literally shown to not be the case in the battle itself.

@@MrMorj That is interesting. I kind of don't like Oda using those plot devices. Dofflamingo's Bird Cage was able to touch seastone and couldn't be cut by Fujitora. It's just interesting to think that fruit powers are so impactful. Kaidou moving Onigshima is one of the most impressive feats in the series, and it didn't take any of his strength away. It's so strange how most fruit powers drain stamina when used, but this feat (not matched to many in the series), is just an additional feature. It's how Oda chooses to write his villains I guess. I am guessing my biggest issue is that Wano had zero stakes to begin with, so the overblown plot device just stands out a lot more.

Perhaps one reason for making excuses for Kaidou's defeat is that he was explicitly stated to be the currently strongest being in the world, and the natural assumption was that Luffy would have to defeat him by other means than strength. However, Gear 5 Luffy being stronger that him doesn't really contradict this statement, as he tapped into a power that had not been used in 800 years. I think that this chapter gave us an explanation for the role of physical strength. The ship-punching was said to be the thing that made Garp strong, so I'd assume that one of the properties of Haki is being a strength multiplier. I think in English a son-in-law can still be called son? No clue if the same goes for Japanese. Of course, Dragon being Garp's biological son has always been the most logical assumption, even if past phrasing has suggested that it could be otherwise.

And still, luffy did not fought and beat him in a true 1 v 1 imo. Kaido fought and took too many hits for that. So because Luffy wasnt really dominating Kaido that much, even in G5, I dont think there is an obvious case for Luffy winning a rematch. Big Mom is perceived as a joke cuz Oda wrote her as a comic relief that happens to be a yonkou. Doesnt feel like she was taken seriously since the wedding.

@@hasamikun My point about Big Mom is that in reality she’s Kaido’s rival. No one puts Big Mom over Luffy even Morj instantly said Luffy is beating her. By extension if it’s a given Luffy is beating Big Mom then it’s a given he’s beating Kaido. It’s no different than saying someone beats Sanji but not Zoro it’s extremely unlikely for a character to fit in the tiny gap between them. Kaido wasn’t overwhelming G5, G5 was owning him then he made a little comeback then Luffy grabs him. Luffy could do fine even just in base which made no sense lol by that logic when he went Gear 4 Kaido should have been getting owned. A simple solution would have been put Kaido in base instead of hybrid Luffy having help against Kaido doesn’t matter because he’s way stronger now than when their first fight started. Luffy was even more worn out than Kaido by their 3rd. Most importantly everyone for some reason ignores King saying he’d keep following Kaido long as he’s the strongest and Kaido saying Joy Boy is who will defeat me to which King goes well I guess we’ll never meet him. Kaido losing to Luffy power to power here symbolized that he’s not the strongest after all. There’s no reason to put that in there if Luffy didn’t surpass him. Kaido thought of the fight as a fair 1v1 which is why he was angry when CP0 interrupted

I think your reference of how lee in Naruto got stronger by removing some weights similar to kaido getting stronger after flame clouds are not present is slightly different scenarios. Lee was training with cuffs for literally many years as a training regime, slowly accustomed to live a normal life with cuffs, and even fight with cuffs on. But you can't say the same thing that Goku after 100* gravity, immediately after turning it off he becomes instantaneously stronger. He first falls back of exhaustion, then rests, and then was able to that he has become quite strong compared to his previous self. Immediately after turning off the gravity training, he did not become super light weight and strong. I think kaido was draining a lot of energy for moving onigashima is not a head cannon. But still luffy overpowered kaido in last hit is ok to accept

I don't understand what Kaido need to show to prove that he is stronger than Roger? He is better feats than Roger and in overall stats he is stronger. People only talk about Kaido said Roger conquered the world with just Haki but forget, in what context Kaido said that. Kaido bring Roger because Luffy was relying on his df powers and Kaido told him that haki is more important power and we saw in the end of the final clash Luffy have that flashback of Ryou. The only thing is that people put Roger on pedestrian that no one can reach even though already confirmed it that WB was stronger than Roger.
