The assumption that Elbaf will be where the last Road Ponegplyph is found/fought for/whatever is not really based on anything in the story. I don't think we'll have another arc that is exclusively included for the sake of the road poneglyph but... do they need to find it, really? There are more than a few other ways for the Straw Hats to get the information they need. Other pirates, like Law, possibly Urouge, more likely Shanks or Scopper Gaban if he's relevant, will have the ability and the motivation to help them out (or challenge them for the rubbings). The whole 'man marked by flames' thing just doesn't feel right to me. Like Oda has another plan for the progression of the story but threw that in there as flavour. I don't know.

I think the way you judge the work of Vagabond vs the book it's based on is inherently flawed, since you're discounting the fact that a "picture book" adaptation of a literary work can be better than the work it's based on. I understand that your question was whether the excellent writing and dialogue of the manga version are pulled from the book, but even if every single "good moment" or "good piece of dialogue" was pulled one-for-one from the literary source, it doesn't make it bad; and, more importantly, I think you're missing the fact that beautiful drawings and visual representations of a (potentially) already well-written source material can elevate that source material in a way that words on a page cannot. This, by the way, is coming from someone who's read neither Vagabond nor its source book, but from someone who reads 100+ books per year on top of several manga, and there's value in both written work and the pictures that can elevate it. For instance, I don't believe One Piece would work as literature: it's fundamentally meant to be a manga and communicates heavily through visuals, and if we lived in a world where One Piece was based on a book as a source and was adapted into a manga, we'd probably say the manga was better, even if all of the incredible character writing, world building, and themes were in the source material.

Someone who actually read Musashi, the book that Vagabond is based off of, here. The characters of the book are all the same characters as in the manga, but many of their roles/personalities are flipped to other characters. Almost all of the fights in the manga go down much differently than how they happen in the book. The farming arc in the manga, which is often seen as the best arc, is brushed over as like 1 paragraph in the book, and the book has numerous plot points that aren’t even touched in the manga. The book is definitely a masterpiece, my second favorite book ever, and the manga is a masterpiece, my favorite ever, but they are fs not the same thing. General story line of musashi being a badass swordsman who develops as a person the stronger he gets is the same, but how it’s done is unique enough in the manga to be its own thing. The dialogue fs is completely original

There are major changes in the vagabond story so it's more influenced by the book because in reality kojiro was not mute and deaf. He was changed to represent the spirit of a pure warrior swordsman. Also, some of the dialogue that is speaking directly towards art and artists is created by inoue because he perceives himself as a kind of artistic warrior with the solitude, isolation, improving your craft, being inspired, ect. Like, in the book matahachis grandmother is a major character

What if the mystery guy with long hair is actually Rocks and that’s who is revealed next chapter. Would be interesting if Kaidou and Big Mom returned and joined forces with him to reunite the rocks crew. They’d probably b heavily injured and therefore nerfed but it would give credence to the whole “return of rocks” idea floated by sengoku. Idk what role the rocks crew would play going forward tho

The part about how only yonko level or above characters are impressive/exciting is such a problem for shonen series (i mean the fandom's perception) and it's the reason the Straw Hats don't get as much focus any more (We'll be lucky if Chopper gets one more fight in the entire series)

I think we are going to end up getting a few scuffles with the holy knights. Then whatever the outcome there will be a haki training arc again, because Luffy is no match for the haki of Joyboy and Shanks or Mihawk. So there’s gotta be at least one more power-up coming before they tangle with the gorosei again. I think Shanks will train Luffy. I think Elbaf is going to be kind of like Sabaody. Instead of them getting rescued by Kuma, it’ll be Shanks and the red-hair pirates rescuing them. But this is all just a guess.

Hopefully after Morj catches up to Sakamoto Days he’ll resume reading Kingdom again 🤞

While I agree with the overall analysis, I don't agree with the assumption that each and every single straw hat needs meaningful character development. Jinbei: got his crucial development way before he joined during his time with Fisher Tiger and the Sun Pirates. He's also the most experienced of the crew. Give him some brief shine against strong opponents here and there or let him be a vocal point for a character that actually needs growth ... But yeah, to me he's kind of an already 'completed' character. Brook: he 'just' wanted to not be alone, have a crew/friends again and ultimately see Laboon again. He showed what he can do in Thriller Bark and WCI. As with Jinbei I think the crucial character development happened before joining the SH... Show how he gets stronger, but we don't need deep emotional, complex character development arcs with him... Robin: Her greatest necessary character development was during Enies Lobby/Water 7. With her goal + her IQ and EQ she is also pretty much an already 'complete' character. Aside from needing to become a stronger fighter maybe. But being a fighter is not her purpose anyway. Sure, she needs get stronger along the others but yeah... Franky: being the shipwright/engineer, he's virtually 'doomed' to be a 'mere' support character. It is his job to take care of the ship, improve on it to let others shine. His greatest/crucial character development also happened before, respectively as soon as he met the SH. Bonney (if she officially joins): she'd be the kid, the youngest, the new generation after Luffy etc.... She got huge character exploration with Egghead, maybe some growth as well? But yeah, it should be fine to either 'ignore' her a bit or give her more focus than Jinbei, Brook, Robin, Franky as she is figuratively and literally growing as a person. Nami is actually similar to Franky, a 'doomed' support character. They gave her lots of growth with Arlong Park + WCI + Post Sabaody/Pre Reunion. I agree with that she's clearly a favourite of Oda+fans alike. Overall: I think it's ok that some of the SH get sidelined because either their arc is already or pretty much completed anyway, aside from growing in physical strength. Or because their purpose in combination with their end goal(s) already frames them as side/support characters

I do not know man. I personally felt no tension at all when i saw Luffy getting plot armor left and right against Kaido, which ultimely led to him *getting the Gear 5 BECAUSE he was knocked out yet again* Then against Lucci, Luffy toyed with him, which was fine given that there was only so much that Lucci could grind. But then, move to Kizaru and Saturn... and Luffy always strikes them better than they try with him, even turning them into pizzas once. All while at no point he is in actual danger, if not when he is forcibly deprived of the Gear 5 and lays motionlessly. And even when the other Elders came, Luffy always reacts funny to their attacks more than in actual pain. If things keep going like this, then I just can't imagine Luffy having any real trouble against Blackbeard or Akainu, because no matter what powers they may get, if Luffy always laughs off their attacks, and invents new ways to make a fool of them, or basically plays with himself whenever he gets hit, then is Luffy really in danger? And forcibly removing the Gear 5 always and ever would only end up proving how much of a tension-removing power it really is.

Totally agree with this, the story is set up to be the age old story of good vs evil..look at blackbeards df powers they are both the epitome of evil, bad..a power of pure darkness and a power of destruction, now look at luffy he is without a doubt the only character who could have gotten the df powers that he has he is to a fault pure and good , roger was the closest to joy boy in his time but he was still missing something and luffy has it so now you have a story built up to show pure good vs pure evil and the two parties involved are the only ones who could play these roles, Blackbeard taking lokis df powers is the last piece he needs to put him on that god tier, and look at joy boy yes he had nikas power but look what oda focused on, his Haki that was so strong it traveled thru the ages and still had a MAJOR affect on the world! Luffy is going to have to defeat Blackbeard with a combination of his df powers and an insane level of Haki or not so much powerful but pure and good look at wat the giants said about joyboys Haki it was crazy strong BUT it didn’t feel hostile or deadly even tho it was INSANELY strong..pure heart and a crazy high Haki level takes u to I high level that is not only insanely strong but pure enough to overcome evil no matter how powerful it appears to be! Either Blackbeard is going to negate or straight up take luffys df powers in their fight, luffy is going to appear to be beaten but then he’ll turn things around and defeat Blackbeard using only Haki…oda made it a point for kido to say Haki is above all! If it doesn’t go down exactly this way I bet it’ll turn out that Haki will be the difference in their fight..Blackbeard focuses only on df powers for him and his crew I don’t of any in that crew that develops their Haki but rely solely on df powers
