to clear up some of the drama especially around jango, oda took inspiration from multible sources for some of the characters. usually the looks only came from one source, but certain atributes may come from other sources or people.For example the admirals; all of them look like japanese stars but by personality represent differend types of justice, or Inazuma looking like Cruela De Vil but having distinct features from Edward Scissorhands.

There's this superhero character in the Philippines called Captain Barbell where a skinny kid found a golden barbell that transforms him into a buff cape superhero. The skinny kid has the same design of luffy pre timeskip, with its red chaleco, shorts, slippers and ofcourse the strawhat. The kid also lives in the Smokey Mountain (Grey Terminal's inspiration). I believed Oda saw this movie because it's too much of a coincidence and I never seen or read any interview of Oda mentioning this one. The name of the actor is Herbert Bautista.
