Thank you for your kind thoughts. I produced these videos for my college ceramics classes because I couldn’t teach in person. I have retired from teaching this year and am releasing them weekly. It is rewarding to be able share with you.

Hi Sir! I know the video is a long while ago...But I hope you can read my message. Have a question. It seemed that the pot held it shape while you picked it up with both hands and no finger prints seen? What are the rules of thumb to remember when picking up a pot bare hand and from the wheel? (1 of my problem is the body is quite damp and soft to pick up, another is after wiring, the bottom stuck to the base when i tried to lift) Thanks very much if you can advise.

Hi, I rib the slip off of the pot with a flexible rib, either metal or plastic, so the surface is not wet. When the pot is closed like this one the air inside will help it maintain its shape. Clean the water off of the wheel head before cutting the piece away and use a twisted wire which puts small air pockets under the pot allowing to release easily. Finally dry your hands and gently place them on the piece with as much of your hands touching, gently tilt the piece and lift. The secret is to disperse the force that you use to pick it up over as much of your hands as possible and avoiding using just your finger tips. If there are any marks they are easily wiped away with a sponge after the form has firmed up. Good luck and have fun!

@@richardmccollceramics So the tip is secure the body of the form with the palms and a twisted wire. 🙂I visited your online gallery and viewed the whole list of your works. They are so beautifully presented; from the formation of the vessel till control of firing, each tedious step would take your time and effort to derive the perfect piece through your creativity. I bestow your skillfulness and artisan in which the vessel is beautifully spoken its journey before the eyes of the admirers. Must say, I do enjoy pottery when I get that magical interest, I can just think about it every min and cant wait to get on hands on! Thank you for all tutorial videos, very helpful and answering questions help solve our insufficient knowledge along the way.
