Yes, it has been well-known that some localization in Tekken is not a direct translation. The localization team is just trying to give more nuance to the characters. That's why people prefer the term as "localization" instead of "translation". This localization also happen in other video game. Final Fantasy 7, Resident Evil, have been known to create a different context from their character dialogue. As long as it's not as bad as Phoenix Wright localization ... most gamers accept the idea since usually more acceptable culture-wise.

​@@gnomegguy69 I forgot which Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney's game. But there is a scene where Phoenix eats rice and the subtitle said something about "Eat your hamburger." I actually had to reload my save to make sure I was not misreading that. Not to mention the game is said to take place in California, US, while all the in-game setting show locations unique to Japan. There are other bad localization, but those are some of the biggest offensive. Capcom America, and game company in-general, have learned a lot since then. More modern games are localized better.
