Hear me out. The Bon chan moment is not supposed to be super sad (like many other One Piece moments). It's supposed to be super epic and brave moment, and just a bit sad. You can see this on how Oda drew facial expressions in the manga (he hasn't done these faces in any other situation).

14:45 Yes, but Magellan's job is running a torture prison for one of the most corrupt governments in fiction. He cant claim ignorance like Coby or maybe even Smoker. He's literally in charge of torturing prisoners. He doesnt seem to get pleasure out of it, so he doesnt feel as villanous, but he's far worse a villian than Arlong ever was. We hate Arlong because he personally hurt Nami. Magellan is worse precisely because of how impersonal he is - how he justifies abuse in the name of Justice and just "doing his job."
