Fun fact: The actor who played Mihawk was actually a casting agent. He thought they wanted to have him cast the role but was offered it instead. He totally killed the role if you ask me (pun intended).

They didn’t mention this in the live action but the reason why Sanji uses kicks instead of hands in combat is because as he says, his hands are his most useful tools for cooking and can’t have them damaged, thats why he uses kicks instead

It's amazing that you picked up on the underlying anxiety that Zoro struggles with, it feels like so many fans seem to overlook that about him. Yes, he trains extremely hard and nearly every waking moment, but there's a reason underneath all that. Kuina's passing impacted him so much more than people realize. There's a line that his sensei (Kuina's father) that did not get put into the live action; about the shocking frailty of the human body and life. Death can be sudden and shocking, and it changed Zoro to his core.

One thing that I thought about Mihawk is that he accurate gauged Zoro's strength enough to give him a wound that would have killed a normal person but that Zoro could survive, yet serious enough to show him the difference in their strengths. This gave Zoro a new guage in which to judge his own skills.

The appearance of Mihawk is the first hint of foreshadowing by the story teller of WHAT level of power and danger is awaiting for them in the Grand Line. Zoro learns in this fight just how far away he is from "Greatest Swordsman" hehe.

Mihawk is just that good. He's one of the seven warlords of the sea for a reason. He and Shanks DO share an ability, but its not Devil Fruit related. This episode actually condensed like 8 episodes or more from the anime. I like the pacing and I'm okay with how the story has been changed from the anime. The important parts of the story are still hit and especially Zoro vowing to never lose again hits with so much emotion. I tear up every time.

About the question on whether or not Mihawk is a devil fruit user, is that he is not a devil fruit user. Devil fruits typically have a fantastical aspect to them like having a body made of rubber, or a body that can seperate itself, control elements like wind (reference to a filler character in the anime). Mihawk's introduction is to showcase just how strong people can become without devil fruits and give a hint to the dangers of being in the grand line, a place where the truely strong gather.

10:10 Here’s the thing about the 7 Warlords: they are all ridiculously powerful. If you continue with the series past the live action, you will meet all of them, & they all have important roles in the story. As well, Mihawk doesn’t have a Devil Fruit, he’s just an incredibly strong swordsman. He’s actually 1 of 2 Warlords that don’t have Devil Fruit powers.

There are characters in one piece that do not have devil fruits and have powers through training. Shanks scaring away the sea beast, Koro moving really fast , or mihawk being a giga Chad with a blade.

Believe it or not, Mihawk is just a very strong and badass swordsman. It's why he's the strongest Swordsman alive. There's only a few that can fight on par with him with a sword. I do hope one day y'all will visit One Piece the anime, although it will be a long series. That just mean lots of entertainment, joy, and sorrow. You'll see the loyalty of each crew member, as well as how complex each characters are. Really well written characters. Zoro and Luffy's dynamic is based on ambition..real recognize real. But also on a promise. Zoro worrying that he disappointed Luffy, is simply related to the little innocent poison that Luffy carries, him saying "King of the pirates would need no less than the Greatest Swordsman" to Zoro. Zoro suffers from anxiety, he just looks confident, this moment here is gonna change him and tune his anxiety to a 100.

Mihawk was impressed by Zoro's warrior resolve but knew that Zoro's dream is tremendously challenging and difficult. So I think Mihawk cut Zoro seriously enough such that if Zoro does not have the physical strength to survive this injury, he won't have the strength to achieve his dream.

Mihawk is skill, power and experience his title as the Worlds Greatest Swordsman is not hollow he upholds that title well. Like many other people have said, Mihawk is just a show of just how far away Luffy and the rest are from achieving their goals. Also Zoro has superhuman strength you forget how he lifted up the safe like it was nothing. Something to keep in mind is that Luffy, Zoro, Garp, Morgan and Mihawk are in the superhuman league they are just beyond normal human limits. Everybody else not so much theres more individuals with superhuman power but you'll see someone else with similar power soon. The best way to explain Garp's sudden change in attitude imagine being incredibly angry at Luffy's action but at the same time being incredibly proud which is why he can get angry and then start laughing out of nowhere he can't help himself. Garp values his freedom a lot something that Luffy values alot as well which also helps with his being angry but proud since Luffy is doing his actions of his own free will but he would prefer Luffy to be a Marine.

Garp is a Vice Admiral, after that there are 3 Admirals and then 1 Fleet Admiral. Fleet Admiral is the leader of all the Marines.

The intro of Mihawk really shows you how big the world of One Piece can get and that our crew, as talented as they are, are still just small fish in very very big waters. I just have to say, I love Nami’s actress. Like you can really see everything she’s thinking in her performance. The look on her face when Zoro rejects their friendship and then when she’s contemplating getting on that boat and leaving. Emily Rudd kills it. I also just love the boys ribbing Nami about her ‘new boyfriend’ and Nami trying to fight her smile with a “you guys are the worst.” And then Zoro using the drinking game to try and get to know Nami because he knows she can’t resist a bet (which by the way, excellent set up from that last arc). It’s a real moment of vulnerability for the two characters on the ‘not crew’ that tend to be the most closed off. Love it!

Mihawk is probably the most WELL RECIEVED character in this show. With the way he looks in the anime/manga, I didn't know how well it could be adapted into Live Action, but holy cow they did it. Also, he's not a Devil Fruit user. Humans in One Piece are very diverse in ways that they can be powerful. Some can just find a Devil Fruit and that's that. Others work their ass off in ways they are skilled, in to the point of Superhuman. He is just that skilled and powerful on his own merits and strengths. And this is the part where people really liked Zoro for not just being humbled by someone stronger than him and taking it really well, but devoting his life's dream to not just himself, but to his captain. That's when he truly became part of the crew. As for Nami. You'll find out soon enough.

"Zoro is a normal person".... so is Mihawk. And Shanks, for that matter. What powers they have come from skill and training. That's why this fight is so important to One Piece canon, Mihawk demonstrates the peak of what a normal man on the Grand Line can reach with effort and dedication, just like Zoro was at the peak of normal humanity for the East Blue.

Garp is quite an eccentric character indeed. Being strong enough to literally baseball throw cannonballs at that speed is just one more example highlighting how much strength and power most characters in One Piece have. Also in one piece 99% of the time. If someone ate a devil fruit they will tell you like buggy did. One of the things that make one piece great is the power scaling. You’ve seen mihawk, shanks, and even garp do things that would make you think devil fruit. But they are just that strong, around episode 400 in the anime you start to learn about what other power people can have. That is one of the things that helps keep one piece so entertaining so many years later.

Up to this episode, our team seemed pretty powerful: Luffy is the owner of a rare and magical power and Zoro is a badass swordsman who can singlehandedly fight off a bar full of marines without even drawing his weapon. This episode introduces two points that dwarf our protagonists' power levels and show how dangerous even non-Devil Fruit users can be moving forward: Vice Admiral Garp bare-hand throws a canon ball like a baseball about as far as his warship's canons were shooting; and Mihawk both casually cuts a battleship in half from the beach while talking on the phone and toys with Zoro in the same manner as Zoro toyed with the bar marines.

Since no one mentioned it, allow me to explain Mihawks like about 'The frog in the well' . In the world of one piece, the East blue, the sea they are in, is the weakest sea. SO the "You're like a frog croaking in a well" was not in fact making a joke or reference to Zoro being a well episodes prior. Basically the meaning of it was this. The Frog croaks loudly in its TINY POND thinking its surely the biggest one there. Until it LEAVES the pond...and realizes theres are other animals vastly larger and greater than it. In other words "You think you're STRONG just because you've made a name for yourself in this TINY area BOY? Trying leaving this area, and going out into the rest of the world...and you'll see just how strong you're NOT" BASICALLY he was telling Zoro 'Pft you aint shit bro, I aint scared of you" in fancy terms XD

I'm not fully caught up with the anime, but Mihawk is that strong. If I remember correctly, he is one of the few people who can use Haki. It's like Ki from Dragonball, giving people the ability to perform superhuman feats. Remember Shanks and how he got that sea creature to just leave, that's how he did it.

You’ll know someone is a Devil fruit user in two ways: 1) they or the show will tell you right off the bat 2) the power will be something truly outlandish. Like, ridiculous and laws-of-physics defying outlandish. It won’t just be like “give you super strength or speed”. Luffy and Buggy are good examples. It would be like (and I’m just making these up, but they’re in line with what the show would do) the ability to turn into a tiger, the ability to create and become steel, or the ability turn parts of your body into blades.

In the manga/anime the team encounter a marine( who saji kicked butt of before this) fired a cannon but hit the restaurant and luffy was punished instead since he did not reflect the cannon shot properly......i kinda found this funnier because it matches the live vibe

20:36 Just for reference in terms of the power difference between Mihawk and Zoro, everybody living whom is present in this season with the exception of two people could join forces to fight Mihawk and he'd still win for those two people whom are exceptions they can fight Mihawk one on one and either draw or win.

In this world you can be 'normal' with alot of training. Like zoro lifting the safe in ep1, or grandpa garp throwing the cannon ball(in anime its even bigger haha). You can take 'normal' to extreme if you train enough

Ah... Mihawk. One of the 7 Warlords of the Seas (Shichibukai). To begin to understand how powerful Mihawk is, you guys have to understand the world of One Piece. The world map of One Piece is split like a cross, with each section being the 4 oceans of this world, namely East Blue, West Blue, South Blue and North Blue. The crew are from the weakest of the 4 oceans, the East Blue. The middle vertical line is a gigantic flat mountain called the Red Line and the World Government Nobles stay at the top of this mountain. This mountain divides and separates North Blue from East Blue and South Blue from West Blue. Also on a side note, the entire world of One Piece is ruled by one single World Government with an iron fist. The horizontal line is more of an imaginary line called the Grand Line. It separates the South Blue from East Blue and North Blue from West Blue. The Grand Line is formed when all the ocean currents in the world converge into a single powerful current, which happen to form the horizontal line. The Grand Line can normally only be entered from one location where all the currents converge, and when you enter the Grand Line, leaving it is next to impossible due to your ship being carried by this powerful ocean current. The same goes for entering the Grand Line. Unless the sailors are using the special warships that the Marines use, normal ships are too weak to withstand the current of entering the Grand Line from the sides instead of their converging point. The Grand Line is full of dangers like dangerous sea monsters due to its isolated nature and treacherous unpredictable weather. Many people perish in the Grand Line. You can think of the Grand Line as the center ocean of its own, where the truly strong, capable and hardcore can survive. Now in this Grand Line, there is a hidden last island called Raftel (Laugh Tale) where the Pirate King Gol D. Roger hid his greatest treasure the One Piece. It is during his execution that he created a new Pirate Age by inciting treasure hunters and adventurers to seek out this treasure. Among the many pirate crews that sail the Grand Line, there are 4 that are so equally powerful that they can strike fear into the World Government and potentially topple the World Government. The leaders of these 4 respective pirate crews are given the unanimous title of the 4 Emperors. These 4 Emperors and their crew are so powerful that the Marines together with their strongest fighting force, the 3 Admirals, will struggle to stop them. To put into perspective how powerful an Emperor and his/her crew is (this is going to be a spoiler), one of them have the power to create earthquakes and tsunamis with a swing of his fist. And that's just the leader of the crew. The rest of the crew are all powerful in their own right, with some being on par with Warlords and Admirals. An Emperor has a literal army of powerful pirates. And this is just one Emperor and his crew. There are 3 more Emperors like this, each one as equally monstrous as each other. In order to even stand a fighting chance against an Emperor and his/her crew, the World Government offered the title of Warlords to 7 pirates with great power and potential to become their allies. These are the 7 Warlords of the Seas. Due to them being Warlords, they effectively become privateers due to having the backing of the Government. They can plunder and pillage for all they can and the Government will not arrest them and will overlook all their actions. In exchange, they will become the Government's lapdog when the Government summons them for missions or to fight for them. This is who Dracule "Hawkeye" Mihawk is. The world's strongest swordsman and one of the 7 Warlords. When all 7 Warlords and 3 Marine Admirals gather, theoretically they should be able to fight on par with just one of the Emperors and his/her crew. Also Mihawk is technically not a pirate, and he has no crew. The other Warlords on the other hand all have crews of their own. By the way, all the 7 Warlords are based on and designed with animals as their motifs. Mihawk is obviously a hawk.

Mihawk's and Sanji's actors are fantastic in their roles, as are every actor in the show. It's almost like Oda was heavily involved in the live action adaptation and found the exact people who would do a character justice. There are lessons to be learned here by the companies who push garbage movies out. Find the actor or actress that fits the role, rather than casting the flavor of the week and altering the character to be played.
