If you do want to get into the anime, just go at your own pace. Those who have to wait weekly (and don't read the manga) for new episodes are always wondering what Oda sensei is cooking next for the story. The story on the surface maybe goofy but it has emotion and layers and by far, the best world-building out of any other anime out there!

Just like how people that watch books adaptation don't necessarily go to read the sequels and only wait for the rest of the adaptation. I assure you one piece fans won't pressure you to watch the anime or manga. Be One Piece Live Action Only would be your guys greatest strength.

Shanks knows luffy’s goal, and Shanks wants to give Luffy more reason to become it, to become a great pirate so he can return the Straw Hat, and by extension meet his role model once again.

On top of anything and everything being a possibility, remember that these crazy goofy/odd things still aren’t normal for the background characters. A completely “normal” human may have slightly abnormal durability allowing them to survive something we would not, but the normal human next to them would still be amazed that they survived.

No, Shanks didn’t eat a Devil Fruit. And the ocean turning the back on Devil Fruit eaters mainly means they lose the ability to swim and exposure to sea water drains their power. That’s it. It doesn’t mean the ocean is literally after them.

He’s the perfect blend of homicidal lunatic and sniveling coward. The “I let them keep their hands” line followed by forced applause was genuinely menacing. But he also nails the pathetic aspect of Buggy - hitting the glass and hurting his hand for example. Buggy was fantastic. He’s one of my favorite cast in the whole show

There used to be a belief that snails that mated held a telepathic connection no matter how far apart they were. In the 1800s some guy I think in France tried to make actual phones using this hypothesis. It was called the pasilalinic sympathetic compass. I've never heard it referenced but I have to believe this was the inspiration for the den den mushi aka transponder snails. It's incredible the amount of inspiration Oda has taken from so many things throughout the world and history. The man has worked 21 hrs a day for 26 years to create One Piece idk how he finds the time to learn so much. He is a genius in every sense of the word. This 8 episode season only covers the prologue of the story.

One thing, Shanks didn't eat a devil fruit, this was shown in the anime, in the way that shanks was swimming, and devil fruit eaters are unable to swim, since they sink like anchors.

A bunch of people didn't understand why Luffy couldn't swim, and the shanks part was a teaser to show that there other strengths or powers in this world rather than just devil fruits. For example someone thought that Zoro was a devil fruit user, because he was able to pick up the safe in episode 1.

I've been watching a lot of first-timer one-piece folks and I might say, your reactions are very unique to Buggy. Most really loved the guy all while overlooking the darkness of the slavery/forced audience crowd from the town. To answer Lisa's question, just feel what you want to feel. As a long seasoned fan, Oda, the creator, really did make people feel a lot of things, so everything is valid regardless of how the show is marketed or how they want it presented. One Piece is a show that takes a lot of issues on our world and put it as crossroads in Luffy's adventure all while making us laugh too. I know that it could be weird for you to feel both on such a serious tone. But I guess that's pretty much One Piece? HAHA I hope I'm making sense. PS Some nugget for Hugo since he mentioned spanish-y, Luffy is imagined by the author to be South American. I'm loving these reactions and your dynamic. Pls hurry on the third one!!

*Just a Little help for you guys* : The characters that have ate the devil fruit can't swim even if they wanted to, that's what the devil fruit's con is as it's really important for a pirate to know swimming as they are always in water. Also Shanks didn't ate the devil fruit and to give a prove that he saved Luffy by swimming all the way to where the boat was, it may sound really cinematic and stuff but yeah it's an anime so nothing is impossible in it.

Regarding the transponder snails: They were discovered by the world government to have a telepathic connection with each other and capable of communication across very large distances. This is very useful for a world that is effectively disparate islands and ships separated by large bodies of water. They are now bred by humans and enhanced with upgrades to make them more phone like. They also tend to take on the appearance of their owner.

I don't know if u guys are already ahead in episodes watch but i will said this. If a character ate a devil fruit the show will said it to u. What i meant it's like not every superhuman in this world is a devil fruit user. Some people have superhuman strengthen, speed and etc only by pure training (again is still an anime so sometimes people are just cool cuz they are) I love ur guys reaction, the three of u have a really nice vibe, sweet, honest and cool.

the manga is actual often considered not violent/ bloody enough (and too little people dying) it's the adaptation that want that, not a bad thing for me, still love the manga better but I loved the live actions) actually the manga is like that too, being joyful, childish, light hearted looking (almost nobody die) but touch some really dark theme, and when a death does occur it hurts so much more, also most of the horible things happening aren't shown directly but kind of vaguely mentionned and it is to the reader to understand how terrible is the thing den den mushi is the name of the snail in japanese

Shanks could have easily killed the sea beast with just a single Finger But he chose Not To.... He deliberately let the sea beast take his arm. This is him saying, I'm betting on you Luffy. This move was also done by God D Roger when he chose to let marine execute him. He bet his life on the next generation Pirates. These same moves will later be done by Other Great Pirates and A Marine. As to why they are doing this, you guys have to read the manga or watch the anime. Shanks has Haki not "Get lost devil fruit. That was Conqueror's Haki. Only person with the will of a true King has that.
