My gosh girl, I hope I never have to deal with any of this - I have enough problems with urinary incontinence, thank you - but dang! You deserve an award for being so willing to explain and demonstrate what you go through on the daily! Thank you so very much!

I love the 2 piece system better. I like the fact I can change just the bag if needed instead of changing the whole appliance.

Benefit of two piece for me is that I can change the bag without pulling at my skin too often. With the one piece my skin got irritated. Also note, you don’t feel the plastic ring. I teach movement and (empty bag of course) do things on my belly without worry.

The only ones that have worked for me reliably are the 2 piece systems by Hollister. The 2&3/4 inch bags with the concave flanges work very well for me. In fact, I easily get a full week’s use out of them without any leaks.

Coloplast sensura Mio 2 piece for me works way better than any other 1 or 2 piece system or brand but we are all different what works for me may not work for the next person. in the uk i get 30 high output and 30 normal size but i don't order unless I'm low on both.

The first system- the Hollister is what I used when I cared for someone else. But now for myself, if I ever need this kind of care I am open to learning the other ways. Options are good 😊

Helping my mother navigate this process of her new life she had a colostomy or a colectomy on January 12 we dabbled with Hollister two piece throwaway but our Ostomy Nurse recommended Coloplast one piece throwaway. They seem to be working pretty good and easier for an 85-year-old to handle.

It also depends heavily on the type of ostomy you have, what your output is like, your overall shape and stature, and your activity level. I have a colostomy and I’m short-waisted. So I chose a closed, one piece system from Coloplast - their sensura mio mini with a soft convexity baseplate. Because I’m so thin at the moment (not from dieting but chronic illness), I may need to try a more rigid baseplate. It still fits without leaks, but it’s just not attaching as well as it used to. It takes time to find what works best for you, plus your stoma will likely change shape over time, the same for your activity level and for your output.

If in a country that covers the cost supplies, how often you need to change will also factor due to limits. In Australia we get 30 1 piece or 20 baseplates for a month.

Here in the uk we're being delivered 60 drainable bags for a month,my partner changes it moring and night during showering. What happens if you have leaks, you have to buy extra bags yourself?

@@martiangod there is a form the stoma nurse fills out to get double the monthly amount. Stoma nurses and hospital can supplies in an emergency. Buying supplies is a bit tricky as only special medical supply stores sell supplies.

The hollister 2 piece convex baseplate and bag is the best as the baseplate only needs to be changed once a week and bag can be changed daily if there is output. This way the skin is preserved. It worked well for my 85yr old Dad. He used to take care of his Ostomy himself

I just recently had my 2nd surgery. I have a ileostomy. This time it’s all together different. I currently use the one piece. I’ve used the flat surface one and I’ve used the other that wasn’t flat to my stomach.( sorry my brain is foggy and I can’t remember the proper names). After my 1st surgery I pretty much had it down from pouch to products Ect. This time it’s like literally starting over all again. Do you think a 2 piece might help with the leaks? My leaks occur either at my belly button or the opposite side. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My stoma has always tilted down, plus it’s small so now with my stitches it actually below the stitched area but has not retracted totally inside and I think that’s why it tends to leak on the sides.
