This isn’t just any pink; this is the pink that transcended its role as a mere color and become a cultural phenomenon. Since Barbie first struck her perfect pose on toy store shelves in 1959, this shade has been pivotal in cementing her status as a pop culture icon.
But Barbie’s signature pink wasn’t chosen on a whim. No, this was the result of meticulous planning, collaborative brainstorming, and a sprinkling of marketing genius. So let’s take a deep dive into the world of Barbie Pink.

So glad you liked that! I chuckled at the “shoplifters with name tags” line as I was writing it, but I wondered if I should just keep that to myself. ;)

My favorite weird Barbie? Hmm, probably the collector dolls Zombie Bride and Empress Of The Aliens. Barbie doesn't really do too much horror or scifi, so they feel more unique to me. I also have a Get Well Kelly doll from my childhood whose gimmick was she had chicken pox and you had to take care of her (the spots would disappear/reappear with warm and cold water). I don't think they could get away with selling a sick doll today though.

Whoa! Was there a commercial for that? I vaguely remember a doll that had chicken pox if you wiped its face with a q-tip. Kind of twisted, really.

@creative_briefs I don't know about a commercial, but the offical name for the doll is Love N' Care Kelly. Chicken pox used to be a normal part of childhood, so much so that it would appear in kids books and TV shows regularly. I myself got it (late 90s) the first week of Pre-K. I was so upset to miss school, I made my mom pick up the "assignments" for the whole week. I had to take oatmeal baths to help with the itching. I still got two tender scars on the lower back of my neck from the pox. For my generation it wasn't twisted, it was a part of life. We were in-between it being a worrisome "will they make it" sickness and it being (mostly) eradicated by vaccines.

Hi! I loved this video and any content about Barbie! However I did just want to say that I was disappointed to see a channel who claims creativity so far that it’s integral to their channel name use what looks like AI generated images for your transitional images. Ai is harmful to creativity and creatives themselves and it’s up to said creatives to push back against use of AI in daily life and creative endeavors- especially if there’s going to be no discloser about it use like could be put in the description

I totally understand your perspective, and I agree with you in large part; but I’ll offer a counter from a creator’s perspective: If I hadn’t used AI images as backgrounds there, I would have used a stock image from a stock site. They’re essentially the same thing from where I’m sitting: I didn’t create either, and both are totally staged. If anything, using AI is the more creative option because at least I have some input on it. As for disclosing my use of AI, I didn’t use it in a way that could be mistaken as real. I would absolutely disclose if I produced an AI image featuring one of the Barbie designers. It would be wrong to do otherwise. But for pretend dolls in pretend environments, I feel like that’s okay. But I would make the same argument as you in certain circumstances, where folks use AI in ways that are unethical and lazy. The video itself is a creative work and the component pieces are often not the work of the video creator. If creators were required to build every asset, stock sites wouldn’t be a thing. As long as those assets used responsibly, what you make with them is an original creative work to be proud of. You raise a really good point, and I think we, as a community, need to be talking about this a lot more. If you’d ever like to explore the topic together, feel free to email me: Jon@creativebriefs.net Thanks for watching!

I am going to continue my discussion here for the sake of transparency- while I understand your reasoning I do not agree with the claim that use of AI images and stock images are the same because it is a fact that AI generation is trained off of stolen images and the works of others with no disclosure or compensation and the process of AI generation is damaging for the environment as well- contrast that to stock images which you pay for the rights to use in most cases so there’s no problem with utilization and no need for disclosure because the majority of people have an understanding of what stock imagery is used for, the other differences are since these images are usually paid for or for free use in some cases that means there was consent given for use by the creatives involved. They were contracted and the use of the images they created were laid out, they were in most cases compensated for their work and there are resources that disclose when and how those images are being used. None of this happens with AI. Artists are not credited, informed, or compensated- and the claim that using AI is “the more creative option” because you have some input ignores the countless people who are being exploited for it.
