Trading PJ Washington doesn't make any sense. Why trade a good starting power forward, who can give you 30+ mins/game of positive play in the postseason, and who's paying above his contract? To get someone who'll eat the cap away and play under their contract? On top of the fact you would need to trade for a 4 in order take his place, which would limit your options. Because Kleber and OMax is not a great rotation; one older, slow and struggles with injuries and the other young and inexperienced and hasn;t shown to be NBA ready.

The more I think about it, the more I don't understand why PJ. He can defend consistently 3's and 4's. He's competent offensively. Can take advantage of mismatches consistently. Has shown an ability to rise in big moments. He may not be able to replicate his 3 point shooting, but you can trust him to hit open corner threes. He's 25, played his first playoffs last year and can develop as role player (better decision making, 3pt percenttage and 3's above the break). Plus with better offensive options coming into Dallas, his looks can only get better.

Trading Kleber also isn't that necessary because he's a fairly decent backup 4, even with his issues. He can still defend. Playing less minutes, he'll likely stay healthy. But he is a good option for who to trade if you needed to trade someone. A more reliable guy definitely wouldn't hurt.

Sorry the Mavs need more defensive help. They got so exposed in the finals against a team that can run 5 out, and had OKC had Caruso instead of Giddey last year they lose that series too. The Mavs were fine when they could let Gaff and Lively just sit in the paint and help out on the poor defense by Luka and Kye, but when they faced a team where everyone could knock down 3's and the C's couldn't just sit in the paint they got exposed big time. Luka and Kye are 2 of the easiest guys in the league to blow by and when you have a great rim protector in the paint that is ok, but when you have a team that runs 5 out and that C comes to help the paint when Luka and Kye got easily beat there was someone there to knock down a 3 or they just had to live with the easy lay-up.
