I really enjoy my FTDX-10. Both the DX-10 and FT-710 have excellent digital noise reduction (DNR), which in my opinion, is probably their best feature. Along with the 'Contour' control providing shaping of the receiver and additionally, 'Intercept Point Optimization' (IPO) in getting that noise floor down as low as possible is key. This ultimately allows a boost in the signal to noise ratio (SNR) , making a world of a difference for pulling out those weaker signals. 73. Dave, AC3HT

Good info, Dave! Ty! I was thinking of the ic7300, but thought a multi purpose rig would suit me. So I got the ic 7100, samlex 30 amp, mfj945e, and a palomar 155 antenna and a diamond 50 vhf/uhf antenna. Im a newby general. And I just need to get a mobile antenna. But it seems to be working out well, despite the operator🥴

Talking about many buttons and confusion over what does what ---- I remember your reaction to using the nanoVNA --- same kind of thing (but you mastered it!!!)
@sammiller6631

I prefer the RigExpert over the nanoVNA. Using the nanoVNA is like using a manual (unpowered) antenna tuner and a random length of wire. Both will work, but the nanoVNA is so much more twitchy and temperamental. You're paying for the cheap price with extra time spent and even then, the nanoVNA is wildly variable depending on how you hold it, how often you calibrate it, the phase of the moon, etc.

@@sammiller6631 sounds like an excuse for not knowing how to use it. No reason to be twitchy or variable or tempermental. How it is held has no bearing on its output or results and for the purpose of using it as if it were a RigExpert --- NO CALIBRATION is needed (that is required only for detailed laboratory work). The phase of the moon or your spirit animals have no bearing on its operation. You've been listening to fairies too often. (BTW, even withOUT calibration, it is more accurate than the RigExpert)

I have a doubt since Tennessee is in zone 4. I don't know if I just have to say my Puerto Rico call sign and add the W4 first.

@@jose3204 I’ve been wondering the same thing, I even changed my address at the FCC site over three months ago but QRZ still shows me as living in PR, I’m in NC. 73 WP4TGK D. C.

8:20 hello Dave. Here you mentioned that 20 works during the day 40 into the evening… I’m new to this world too (Apr2024) and still can’t find a reference as to what band is open at any given time, is there an app or website that helps with these issues? How to those around me know this but I can’t find it? Thanks for your willingness to share information with us rookies. I have mainly Yaesu equipment, Ft DX-10 and Ft-891 for HF, a chinisium mobile for 2M/70cm and a Baofeng portable tri-band. 73 WP4TGK D. C.

Hello David, I hope you are well, I will return to the radio after 8 years of inactivity, I am KP4CH Puerto Rico, but I live in Tennessee, I ask to identify myself locally, do I have to use the prefix W4 to identify my station here in Tennessee? 73s

Only one to get, ts480hx, qrp to dx buster, decent price, home, mobile or portable, even bicycle here. 10-200w, easy to use, small foot print, gets me dx every single day of the week, 10k miles and more. Would buy another ts480hx tomorrow. 73 zl3xdj
