The thing I love about FATE is that you can run a game where the player characters are Indiana Jones, Luz Noceda, Strongbad, She-Ra, three raccoons in a trenchcoat, and the ghost of a dog possessing a T-Rex skeleton, and the villains are Skeletor, the Terminator, Perfect Cell, Mecha-Hitler and the RoboReich, the company HR Department, and the metaphysical concept of grief and loss, and the game runs perfectly fine.

Just a tip for those who are gonna watch the video- if it's difficult for you to concentrate on it, because everything is a little too slow and with many pauses as the rules are explained, just turn the speed up to 1.5, than it's perfect, helped me a lot

This was great for me. It made sense of the FATE mechanics, which are harder to grasp for me, raised on D&D/CoC/Traveller etc… Although, like Jim saying about the collaborative storytelling, the nuts and bolts of system were a little too conspicuous to feel immersion. I can see however, with practice, the system could become second nature and fade into the background, so the roleplay and characters would feel less like pieces in a shared plot-game. I'm going to watch a couple more of these, take notes, then I might feel like we could give it a try - without going back to D&D habits, just using FATE dice, which is what happened last time we played. Another way of using stealth as an "attack", is by creating an aspect of being stealthed on an earlier turn, then using the invokes gained for bonuses to an actual attack. A bit different then using stealth as a direct attack under a specific set of situations, which would be part of the Stunt makeup. Of course they can both be used together.

2:26:40 - My guess is: after the 1st round instead of erasing green dots simultaneously, you can now use “erasing” as who already made their second turn. Additionally add to that character another colour like yellow to indicate that it was their second turn during conflict. When all the characters have no colour or yellow, proceed to the next turn.

I've been thinking of getting into the GM seat for my friends but seeing as i'm a noob at Gming the Fate core caught my interest seeing as the storytelling gets more cooperative betweeen the players and the GM, it's nice to get an indepth introduction to the system before deciding on taking the plunge.

How did you do that, that the description can be seen in the cards? With me only the heading is always displayed

Go to the character sheet and toggle on Advanced Mode. The eye icon controls if that section is displayed on the card. Happy gaming!

I was soooo looking forward to learning about FATE then ....... D&D 5th edition Munchkin gamers started creating PC and I had to run away from the kids table. Example: I want to play an Ancient Dragon buuuuuuuuuut he's a "1st" level PC, yeah, that level of $tup!d.

I don't see a problem exactly. In that instance, I'd find a way to either make the dragon weaker somehow to work with the party or just make sure everyone in the party was epic

Fate isn't a game system with "levels" for characters to advance through. So the starting scale of the game is pretty much up to the gaming group to decide.

@@matb70774 right. Another option would have been to keep the dragon that powerful, but also make aspects and story elements that would make it so the player couldn't just 'dragon' their way out of everything.

Yeah, he’s a dragon. Not defending the guy - the concept is a little bit too big, buuuut- he is still on the same playing as anybody else though. Like - he won’t be able to do anything more than he established. Aspects are only “+2” to his roles, into which he can tie in him being a dragon. Does that help you return ?
