Your videos are so helpful for me. Studying Industrial Engineering.

Great - you ´re welcome!

I believe it's bad practice to just copy the profiles from one part to the other in the same assembly. Also to select the "up to" plane from other part. These two acts gave you the little chain on the tree icon

+davidgruty Hi, I maybe know that better than you and I agree with you, but this is not a best practice video. It is part of a comparison series and therefore I try to do it in all programs as similar as possible. "The keep link with selected object" option is usually disabled in all "big" companies and in catia "skeleton modelling" is different, but as I mentioned before it is just an exercise. So I usually advise in all my trainings against such modelling in catia :)

@@wolfgang.walden.cad.training How about copy the parameters from the parrent part as external parameters? The parameters are updated as they are external and this can be done keeping the link off as default in CatiaV5. Also the parameters can be published in assembly design and used from there. The sketch itself can be copied as is since the parameters are still there. (maybe recheck that the parameters are from the external parameters importated into the new part and not the old parameters with broken link) Hope this helps.

@@AsiAzzy Sorry, as I´ve mentioned before, it is an exercise and it was meant to be similar to the other programs. Many ways lead to rome after all.

@@wolfgang.walden.cad.training Thank you for prompt reply. I myself teach catia in an automotive engineering univerity and fumble around in all sots of programs. Most of them i'm selftaught and without contraints from a real private business as many if not all companies impose (like don't use negative primitives and such). So i've tried many routes for same result. One question if I may please. How can I control the false edges of cylinders and spheres in CATIA V5? Other than breaking the circle from sketch into arcs of 180 degrees but it gets tiring for every hole and round feature. Theese crazy oddball false edges are giving me a headacke in Ansys to patch broken round surfaces into even quarters or halves. I'd like for example all false edges on cyliders to be made normal to some of the absolute axis and not random at 120 something degrees and the next round feature on the same part will have another odd angle that does not line up. I know those edges are not visible, but still it breaks the surface in FEM programs.

@@AsiAzzy Sorry, as far as I know there is no other way to do it. But I didn´t know that these "edges" cause problems.

I see, I will try, but right now my CAD-Laptop doesn´t turn - I´have to get a repair or replacement - will take some time.

Hi Wolfgang Walden, First I want to say thanks for vids from you. It's very helpful. But I would like to ask you a question. In NX 9.0 how can you make sketch with formula like Catia V5, and how can you show parameter out to specification tree in NX 9.0 like Catia? Could you please support me about this problem. If possible could you make a video to compare between Catia V5 and NX 9.0. Look forward to your reply soon. Hope for your cooperation! Thank you a lot in advance. Best regards

You need to speak louder because you are really hard to hear even with the volume all the way up

Not bad, but you should use CCP links ant not the context import links
@wolfgang.walden.cad.training7 жыл бұрын
It is just an exercise and I wanted to show a way similar to the other programs. Those links have different names but in effect it is a linked copy. Btw in this case I wanted the contextual links, because the sketch should control the assembly. Take a look at the latest crankshaft video - there I used the ccp-links because I wanted to move those linked bodies.
