Shame about the negative comments, just down to pure ignorance, it's a culture and a way of life a lot of people would like to experience, me included, I prefer to learn about people and cultures and not just laze around beaches and cheap tourist trinkets.

I'm guessing what keeps people there must be the strong sense of community. It must be a hard life in many ways, though.
@ic41924 жыл бұрын
Likely the money, too. Barrow has lots of money due to oil. But yes, the community is important.

@pillarsofserpents Barrow has special battery hook-ups for cars in parking spots. They have to or yes, you're right, they would freeze up. There is a video somewhere here on youtube that shows some of the cars hooked up to them. ;)

I don't like to go out that much. I'm a home body. But I feel like I would get a real bad case of claustrophobia in a place that small, where it's always winter and where during parts of the year you don't see the sun for months. I think I'd panic.

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR EVERYONE: Since I am writing an original story that I plan to get published, and sell copies of, I need some help from say, a general audience. I am currently in the process of writing a story called THE YELLOW STARS. It takes place in northern Alaska. I have added mountains to the story, created a town, a major river, another town, and a large wooded area that aren't real places in Alaska AT ALL. After the said characters are there, at some point they are forced to dwell in another town for awhile. Which I have chosen to be Barrow, Alaska. I then take advantage of the 30 days of night. This is a sci-fi and possibly horror story. There are monsters in it. (Which, yes, I also created. They aren't Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves, or anything like that) I would like to know if the audience would tell me a few thing. FIRST: Does any of this sound cliche'? SECOND: Has anyone done this before? THIRD: Does it matter to you, whether or not I use a real town? AND FINALLY FOURTH: Would you read it?
@MattyTheBastard7 жыл бұрын
