It’s interesting how “Illusion of Life” says that squash and stretch is by far the most important “discovery”(which you noticed), but it never outright says that it’s the most important principle. Yet it’s become interpreted as the most important principle in various animation teaching guides and even Wikipedia. It makes me curious about why there’s this particular wording, and whether something got lost in translation.

Hi, I am learning Zbrush and Maya. Can you please make a tutorial for rigging in Maya? I made a walking animation using an already rigged model. I want to try to animate my own model. Thanks for videos it is helping me a lot, bless you. (sorry for bad English)

Excellent vid!! I read that the upper half of the head shouldn't have squash and stretch applied as the skull retains its volume, any thoughts on that?
@SkittyAnimates4 жыл бұрын
I think that might be up to personal preference :) based on real human anatomy, it's correct that our skull wouldn't have any deformation. But even if you're animating realism, having a tiny amount of S&S in the skull (so small it can only be felt, not seen) can help convey weight in your shot. If it's a cartoony shot, depending on the limitations of the show/rig you can give yourself free reign. Looney Tunes are great to watch for this. The characters are so stretchy they can be flung like an elastic band. Hope that answered your question 😅
