One Step Ahead Of The Game | SSX (PS2) Review - HazyGray

SSX is the first entry in the SSX Series and was a debut title for the PlayStation 2. It is the only SSX game in the original series that I have yet to play. Time to put my childhood to rest by reviewing SSX.

It's the game that made me go from kinda wanting a PS2 eventually to "Holy shit! I must have one now!!!!"

SSX is amazing but it has a progression system that is brutal . It also has excellent audio . Great game overall and one of the best launches ever .

Yeah. Losing a single race can cause you to restart an entire event since you can't restart. Outside of that, this game is still fun to play and still a certified classic.

I have ssx and ssx tricky in my collection and they are both excellent games, I like the tracks and characters better in ssx.

I remember playing the original SSX for the PlayStation 2 when I got it for Christmas that was immediately hooked on to it especially playing at the Canadian character Elise Riggs to me it was the ultimate snowboarding game next to its sequels now SSX tricky is a great game but I have to say that three is slightly better and the best of the original Three games not counting on tour cuz that one sucked along with the reboot

Yeah... it's so weird. Like, why? You mess up once and have to do all three races all over again? I'm thankful that they changed it with later games.

SSX Tricky was the first game in the series that I played back before the turn of 2010. Later on, I played 2012's SSX ( I also hate it when games do that) and it has been possibly my favorite of the series. This year, I got an emulator and replayed Tricky; still awesome; and SSX 3 which is amazing. My point is, seeing you review this gem during this year made me realize how dear this series is to me and I am grateful for that. Nice character design by the way. PS: You are not crazy. The completing trickbook to obtaining new outfits is the most annoying part of Tricky and your suggestion would have made 100%ing the game ( or at least playing all the events in World Circuit with all the characters) a bit more rewarding and fun. But hey, first game syndrome is a pain so what are you going to do? Also, my favorite characters are Psymon, Elise, Eddie, Zoe, Seeiah and Koari.

It's very interesting to hear your perspective of the game as a fan of the other two. I just recently played it for a video and I had only experienced 3 a handful of times at a local dentist offices PS2 cabinet, so of course the footage of me playing wasn't the best and watching yours made me very jealous. You gave such great insight to the game that only a true fan could. This was a great video and I plan on watching your others once I play them for myself. I do have a question though, which character would you consider to be your favorite in the original? Mine would have to be Hiro. I love the straight line speed he can get up to and tricking with an alpine board isn't all that bad in my opinion. Elise would definitely be a close second, being able to corner like a boss.

Can someone explain to my why my character doesn’t spin or flip as fast as this guys does. My character does tricks through honey.

You have to level up your stats through the world circuit mode. That and some characters aren't that good at doing tricks when compared to others.
