Does anyone know what these "One Step Beyond" shows ARE? Twilight Zone under another name? I'm very confused here. lol HELP!
@virginiastepp24606 жыл бұрын
I will tell you what I think I know. OSB came before TZ. OSB is based on loosely true stories while TZ is fiction. The formats are so similar. When I first stumbled across OSB I was confused too. But after watching and reading comments. I understood a little bit.
@violetmiller99996 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Virginia. I found the OSBs 2 months ago and I really enjoy them. I heard comments about them being true but I wasn't sure if that was just hype for the show or not. But then it shows him sometimes with people who supposedly were involved or whatever so I'm thinking maybe they are based on fact. Loosely. lol Whatever the case may be, they're very good and that guy is a great narrator. He's no Bill Kurtis, but then who is? lol
@@virginiastepp2460 One Step Beyond and Twilight Zone both debuted in 1959. OSB ran for three seasons, TZ for five.

Liz Montgomery was no stranger to this genre, even at this early age. She starred against Charles Bronson in the second season opener of the Twilight Zone, an episode called "Two". Then, she went on to star with John Carradine and Tom Poston in the sixth episode of the second season of Boris Karloff's "Thriller", in an amazing episode called "Masquerade". I won't give away the plot, but the surprise ending is wonderful.

I know some things about Liz....I won’t say why, or how. She loved her father. She looked up to him. He was gentle. Cultured. A very fine actor. A sophisticated gentleman. He was what you might call a conservative. Liz leaned toward the middle, left. Later on she was for women’s rights and against the Vietnam war. But so we’re many others as that war dragged on! She wanted her Dad to play her father in bewitched. He could have blown it out of the park! But he knew that this was Liz’s time to shine. Good Dad. What most people do not know is that she married a young playboy from the New York area. He was rich, cultured. He was very good looking. She thought he was a man like her Dad. He was cheating on her. She went back to Hollywood. She got a fast divorce! Next came Gig Young. Tall, cultured, a man about town. He was an actor with a career. He was drunk all the time. He was horrible to her. Divorce. You may know that decades later he shot his ill wife in the head and then himself. They say that it was a suicide pact. The director of a string of kids films (all the beach party films, a few rock and roll films), William Asher was short, fat and balding. He romanced Liz. Yes, he was the opposite of what she wanted, but that might be who is right for her, so she thought. She told him that he could direct, produce, etc. She was retiring. Fine. They married. After the honeymoon he told her that she would be great in a tv show that he wanted to do. It would be their project! He told her reportedly, that it would run for a few years. It ran for eight seasons. She wanted out for years! Toward the end she found out about his uh, love life! This wonderful woman, this loving true sweet intelligent good looking woman exploded at him! And why not? He was a jerk. During the divorce it was discovered that he had uh, spent (I’ll leave this to you) a good deal of their money! Poor Liz! She made this public, she wanted to retire, but was now forced to do TV movies. And she did them for years! Some of the scripts were films that she’d rather not have done. The second Darrin on Bewitched, Dick Sargent, timidly came out as gay. He suffered from prostrate cancer and was diagnosed in 1989. He wanted to come out. He also wanted to stop rumors that he had AIDS. In June 1992, Sargent was asked to be Grand Marshal of the Los Angeles Gay Pride parade. The truth is this : He feared that he might suffer physical attacks by those opposing him or the gay community. He worked up the courage to call Elizabeth Montgomery, who truly h ad the reputation of being America’s sweetheart, and asked if she would ride in the car with him. The idea was any opposition might not get violent if the ever popular Ms. Montgomery was there. She agreed to do this. This brought forth a very celebrated miracle: the crowds loved seeing these two together, and more than appreciated their being in the parade. Fan/admirers cheered, broke though barriers to get to the car to thank them, shake their hands, etc. Video clips from this event were shown across the country! This was historical. It could have ended Liz’s career, but it had the opposite effect! For the gay community, this solidified Liz’s truly being America’s sweetheart! In the closing decade of her life Liz wasn’t the youngest actress out there. Liz had been in films and tv in the 1950s. Now, toward the end of her run at TV movies, actresses who were born in the 1950s were doing tv films! Plus she was getting worn out. She looked older. She ignored odd, flu like symptoms. She had a devoted boyfriend, Robert Foxworth, but she refused to marry him due to past experiences. Can you blame her? They lived together for around 20 years. He loved her. Can you blame him? She struggled with colon cancer for several years. On January 28, 1993, she married Foxworth. She was sick again two years later. She had just finished another tv film 7 weeks before. She had ignored her symptoms. The cancer came rushing back. She died at home, in bed in 1995. Liz was only 62 years old! Sadly, Dick Sargent died a year before Liz from prostate cancer. No, my friends, Liz was not Samantha. She was much more. Liz was a sincere, beautiful, human being outside and within! Please, remember Elizabeth Montgomery.

Well written , & it would be hard for most not to remember here role as Samantha we know what a fine actress & person she was . Two things she did i loved were her role in Boris Karloff's show Thriller where she was a Vampire acting like regular woman with her husband & they were stuck at a mansion in the pouring rain & they thought the owners were Vampires , funny episode with quite the twist at the end . John Carradine was one of the owners of the creepy house . The other was an episode on Twilight Zone with her & Charles Bronson as the only ones seemed to have survived a devastating war , For her to have no dialogue she was amazing in that role as the enemy even though Bronson also was the enemy . As the last on Earth as we see it they do what humans do , fall in love. Elizabeth was one of those stand out people with a smile to melt any heart. Folks from our generation will not forget her & sadly young folks are usually lost & impatience when it comes to real writing & acting & they will be the ones' to forget but sadly it's their way & their loss. One things for sure she will not be lost on Hollywood .

The Death Waltz was probably the most frightening episode to me as a child. But please know there is one very important scene missing. On the night following the massacre Lilly wakes to hearing Eustace's voice. Lilly then looks in the corner of her room and instead of seeing the form with her dress for the dance, she sees Eustace standing there! I've never been able to see this scene on any reproduced viewing. I even bought a set on dvd. I think the original videos for One Step Beyond are so degraded that the scene cannot be reproduced. If anybody out there has that scene, please put it up on KZbin.

Adam Welton The late '50's? Alfred Hitchcock employed dry wit, which was timeless; Serling was masterful and ironic. Newland took himself so seriously as to come off pompous and silly (The corny ESP stories didn't help matters). Even worse was his appearing in his own shows. An awful host; a terribly dated show, which comes nowhere near TZ, AHP and even (at its best) Karloff's Thriller.
@RobertLocksley3859 жыл бұрын
Garyb3397 Right, I see. It took itself too seriously. Fair enough-I've heard that charge before against OSB. It IS odd that a programme claims to be grounded in fact lays itself on a bit thick, I agree.

Elizabeth Montgomery is absolutely beautiful. It seems she as other actors of her time e.g Charles Bronson, Telly Savalas, Jack Klugman, William Shatner, Carol Burnett And many more has done shows like these from the 60's. Especially the Twilight Zone. And then became Big time popular, deservedly so and even most of them had their own show or made lots of popular movies. I like looking back at old shows and finding actors like them, most before they were even popular. Elizabeth Montgomery and Charles Bronson did a Twilight Zone episode together. I for got the name of it. These were the times when Hollywood had great actors who had class, scruples and decorum. My grandmother told me years ago, that "back in the early days of Hollywood, people had to have great skills to be a great, popular actor, and it was a must that they had to know how to act, dance and sing to meat the criteria." "All three to some degree" was a popular saying back then, she told me. Today it's whatever. No class, no scruples no decorum, and as far as one being able to meat the old school criteria, dance, act, and sing, that went out the window, gone forever. All you need to make it in today's Hollywood is.. be pretty and loose, because looks and giving up your dignity, if you ever even had any dignity, is everything in Hollywood. Corruption, pedophilia, cumming out homosexual and let's not forget changing your sex from man to woman and vice versa is brave and what's popular in Hollywood. It's pathetic and sad. And sadder yet, most of these actors are gone and very, very few to replace them. RIP to those wonderful actors who's sprites dwell in the heavens above.

Doubtful... You just said the magic words -- "Public Domain." Now, unless a MAJOR studio owns most of the episodes and has better prints, what's on the Net is it! They very likely would NEVER remaster them for anything better than DVD if the condition isn't much better than this on average. It's very expensive to remaster/restore films for HD presentation and they only do that with TV series and movies that are available on AT LEAST 16mm (for Blu ray) and 35mm (4K BD) film. An MOD (manufacture-on-demand) DVD release isn't out of the question but it's not preferrable because A) those films and TV releases don't have any kind of restoration or remastering to get the best quality in many cases; B) the format they're printed on is DVD-R and those discs are highly unstable and can deteriorate quickly even under the best storage conditions; and C) there's a rushed quality to these things. Many of them don't even have proper menus and just begin playing (like a VHS tape!) when you put them into a DVD player. DVD-R is a very cheesy media... They might as well just do a VHS release. At least those tapes will last 20 years... You don't even know if a DVD-R will be good in 3 years let along 5! So far, from what I see, more of the old shows that AREN'T Star Trek or Twilight Zone get DVD-only releases. Right now is sort of a bad time for this kind of a thing. They would have been better to do a box release at least 7, if 12 years ago. The video market is declining and less people are buying films and TV shows on disc. Disc will be around for probably at least another 15, if not 20 years but DVD itself may finally be on the way out for general release (probably happen in the next 5-7 years) unless the only thing available for shows and movies is SD broadcast quality tape. That they will release on DVD. They CAN do standard-definition video releases on Blu ray but it's not something most companies typically do.

Although Bewitched is an icon of sixties TV , l can't help feeling that Hollywood missed out on one of the best actresses of the era. I have thought this since I watched Elizabeth Montgomery as Lizzie Borden and this show and other pieces only convinces me more.

It's too bad TV stopped doing anthology shows wherein different actors, writers, and directors, from the usual crop got some exposure

I do agree - Liz is one's favorite witch, but she's got mostly hysterical, arrogant & unpleasantl husbands [on screen]. A FAIR LADY & NO GENTLEMAN - _comme c'est triste._

The Twilight Zone also had many "afterlife" episodes; The trouble with Tempelton,The 16th Millimeter Shrine, The 7th is full of fathoms, even Walking Distance and a Stop at Willohugby. Both series were outstanding.

I wonder if she really knew how flawlessly beautiful she was. I met a girl in the Army who was even more beautiful and just as cold as the girl Elizabeth played in this role.

Weird episode. Liz Montgomery was wonderful and again shows her acting range. You name it, she could do it.

Manuel Boyer after 3-4 seasons, a lot of people thought the whole SERIES was!! You're aware that to get on OSB, it had to have been DOCUMENTED as an "unexplained incident," aren't you? I believe THAT'S why this show didn't last & "The Twilight Zone" did.

Elizabeth Montgomery was excellent as were all the other cast members. Excellent adaptation of this story. If you google it there are several written versions online.
