I guess this is compelling because in most revenge stories, the characters can say how pissed or miserable they are or how much they're gonna hurt their target, but Neo can't say anything and all she can do to express her vengeful feelings is through action alone.

I think it's also a bit to do with the fact that a lot of revenge stories are deliberately billed as being petty or misguided, often targeting people who weren't actually responsible for the death of the person they cared about(e.g. a random soldier on the field when the person actually to blame is whoever put their loved one in that position), whereas Neo is fixated not on Ruby or the random Grimm, who were more *directly* involved in Roman's death, but on Cinder, who was responsible for his being in a position to be killed at all. It's not misguided, it's not petty. Cinder used Roman like a disposable pawn and Neo is *pissed*. So the story's a lot more cathartic because the narrative isn't undercutting it with "owo revenge is so bad right?" or with "dramatic irony" where we know the character they've fixated on is the wrong one but, alas, the character *doesn't*. It's pure and simple. Cinder got Roman killed, and Neo wants her blood.

Remember, the last thing neo saw before falling off the ship was Roman fighting Ruby. If neo really thought Ruby was the real reason why Roman died she would have gone after her first. Neo knows Ruby isn't a great fighter, she could take her on. But neo chose to go after cinder, because she knows cinder was the one who out Roman up to her plans.

She's a sociopath, but a high-functioning one--she can clearly draw lines between cause and effect. Cinder was either directly or indirectly responsible for Roman's death, depending on how you wanna look at it; Neo is almost definitely running a long con and Cinder's too arrogant to realize the buddy act is just that. Once she catches Cinder in a vulnerable position, Neo's almost certainly going to turn on her.

That said It's pretty clear that the only reason Cinder survived her encounter with Neo is because she pulled the maiden power hack, without that Neo would have left Cinder dead in that alleyway.

@Cyanide Indeed, the problem is even when people call them out on it they just deflect or ignore the criticism entirely and continue on without ever trying to fix their mistakes or improve thus creating the plot whole filled cluster that is everything from volume 4 onwards, even the fight choreography dropped like a rock after Monty passed, I will admit that volume 7's fights have been more on the level with the fights of old in how well they flow, but getting fights back up to par doesn't excuse poor writing. The reason a lot of fans so heavily criticized v4 and on is that we care about the material and want to see it at its best, something Miles and Kerry clearly don't seem to care all that much about given how things have gone.

Volume 5 was the same and just drew everything out for way too long (They did literally nothing) and volume 6 started off strong then completely flatlined. Maria was thrown in to explain silver eyes cause they couldn't find another way of doing it, the rival between the two old ladies was awful, the Atlas military was a joke, Atlas itself is flying for some reason (despite the fact that we've seen Atlas multiple times. Another shoehorn Miles and Kerry threw in) and let's not forget the "We're sorry we messed up, here's bumblebee" I'm still gonna watch V7. But it's not because I'm excited. It's because I want to watch it burn like every other season after 1 and 2. (With the exception of the fights in 3)

Gaymer Girl Theory: Neo came from an abusive household but then eventually was put into into the system. Kids would be mean and bully her for not being able to talk (most likely due to trauma) and being shorter, so she runs away. Left starving on the streets she awakens her semblance to imitate the appearance of a merchants daughter so she could snag some food, however not yet mastering it wears off pretty quickly. Running from the police she runs into Roman who saves and see her potential.

I don't disagree that's mostly why she's here, but I'll be honest, it was to be expected. They have to make these character by scratch (thou I'm not justifying waiting so long for another RWBY character) and with most of the others they wanted the whole team/group People said they wanted JNRP (I hope I got it right) but in reality it was really just they wanted Pyrrha, they just felt if you brought her you might as well bring the other three (Not to say some didn't legit wanted all four, but it's mostly for the golden girl) Qrow has the whole Vic issue going on right now so he's no go, and people are gonna want Raven to come along with him. And if Raven is here, people will expect Cinder as well. So that's a whole issue Really, the only likely choices at the moment would have been Neo or Adam, they are the only people practical enough to make completely on their own and not face backlash like the last time But that's just my guess

Personally, I would love to see Roman come back as one of Neo's illusions. Just imagine: one day Roman shows up inexplicably and accuses Ruby of murdering him. They fight, but as soon as Roman is hit he shatters and his hat falls to the ground. Neo steps out of the shadows to pick up the hat and hands it to a newly formed Roman illusion. Roman continues to speak but the camera focuses on Neo, indicating that she is speaking through the illusion. Granted I don't know if Neo's illusions can make sound, but it could be an interesting way to bring Roman back without truly resurrecting him and give Neo a way to speak at the same time.

I'd be hard-pressed to say that Neo can't use her illusions to talk. If she could do that, she would have done so by now. Why would she purposely not use her semblance to talk if she's capable? Sure you can argue that Neo doesn't have to talk in most scenarios, but when discussing things with Torchwick or Cinder, you'd think she would want to say something instead of making them guess based on her facial expressions. That being said, why she doesn't use her semblance to create illusions of written words to convey her feelings is questionable to. In RWBY Chibi she just communicates with a bunch of signs with words on them, but Neo can freely make illusions so why not make illusions of signs? And don't tell me she can't make illusions of objects because in the most recent volume, Neo turned her umbrella into a briefcase.

When she shows up again she demonstrates the ability to make fully functional clones that she can control from a great distance without even having to see them, something she was never seen to have done before. Clones that can talk could be the next progression from that. Also, I just really liked Torchwick's character. Pity they had to kill him.

Well, either Neo kills Ruby, or Ruby convinces Neo that Roman was killed by a Grimm. It could also be that Neo dies, but I doubt Ruby would want that. So yeah, Neo´s likely going to turn on Cinder at some point, and seeing how she can hold her own against a maiden, I guess Cinder will be doomed. Especially now that Cinder doesn´t cover her Grimm arm anymore, meaning that Ruby can see how she can get an advantage over her. What I´m wondering is: How will Ruby react when Neo decides to kill Cinder? Will her "I protect all life" mentality make her try and convince Neo not to do it? How would Jaune react to that? Honestly, re-introducing Neo to the plot was one of the best things the show staff did so far, if you ask me.

Neo is no pushover by any means, but if Cinder fought her like she did against Raven, Neo is at disadvantage even with her impressive Semblance. If Neo gets the drop on Cnder it'll have to be by a surprise attack when Cinder is distracted by Ruby. I'm guessing they'll fight RWBY in Atlas and Cinder loses her grimm arm to Ruby, and that's when Neo attacks her (assuming the icecream midget isn't distracted by Yang that is) That being said, I'm certain she wants revenge on Ruby too. She was the last person seen with Roman after all and Ruby was the reason they got separated in the first place. But then again, if Roman had used even an ounce of braincells, he would've waited for Ruby to get inside the airship and try to get the drop on her that way, in a confined area where she can't utilize her scythe or Semblance to the fullest, instead of getting out of the ship where there's hundreds of Grimm ready to dive down on them.

I've loved Neo as a character since I first saw her, from her design, to her character, her sheer badassery. Then after Roman got eaten, she just kinda disappeared. She popped up in Chibi here and there, and of course I went nuts over that, but as volumes passed without Neo, I kept wondering what she was up to. I see her come back, I hear this theme playing and there are no words for the number of backflips my heart did. Neo, as the fucking mute, probably has some of the best character development aside from say... Cinder, or Jaune, or maybe Weiss/Yang.. Seriously, I love this girl, she's a wild trip.

Here is my Character Theory/Analysis: "Lost without a voice and on my own. Then a candle's flame brought a brand new name" - Candle = Candle being an allusion to Roman Torchwick and his entrance into her life - Flame = The term "flame" could be a double entendre seeing as "Flame" is also a word for a passionate, but oft short-lived past love. In the same way fire's prolonged exposure to its ignition source creates a greater "flame", the prolonged relationship between the two created something "more". - A brand new name: As suspected, Neo is probably *not* her original name seeing as "Neo" also means "New" (if we excuse the "Politan" surname), I'm supposing her "New" name refers to the escape from her old, seemingly drudging for the new, excited life with roman (For all you Brunswick Theorists) which, if we went that route, would in turn assume that Roman was *not* a relative but perhaps a newcomer who happened to stay with the family and enticed her to a life of crime, drawing her from the farm (or whatever life she lived prior). This theory is countered, however, with the following line: - "After years of suffering finally had a place to go" I'm assuming this means whatever previous life she has (Brunswick or not), it was a pain-filled one, which gave her further reasons to follow Roman who probably saved her and/or enticed her, this gaining an unbreakable loyalty to him, and, of course, a new name. - Having thrust her entire identity into Roman's persona, she has no one and nothing left, and is as empty now as she was in her life before. - Also, I genuinely believe these are the words Neo is actually saying in her heart, or perhaps the sentiment of them, despite having the ability to verbally depict them. - Just a side note: Having read the comments, the orphan theory seems like a promising route. Furthermore, Neo, like Nora, is also presented as an orphan and was possibly rejected from her people or maybe the sole survivor of a Grimm attack to her people. Could there be some sort of correlation there? Some food for thought. Final words: Does she really believe Cinder's idea that it was Ruby's fault? Perhaps, seeing as Roman wasn't *exactly* a fan of her either (which makes Neo not a fan of her as well). However, neither of the girls actually saw him die, and, knowing Neo, any purpose she serves is to first Roman then herself. And since Roman is out of the picture…

Well I don't think Neo really believes what Cinder said about Ruby. I see more as a means to an end. My theory is that she is teaming up with Cinder just long enough, to earn her trust, to let her guard down, and then she's going to stab her in the back. Though that probably won't stop Neo from trying to kill Ruby, like you said Roman hated her and she did as well because of him. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

She is absolutely one of the most skilled, but she's not very adaptable. She excels against people who fight hand-to-hand, with short-reach weapons, or slow/predictable weapons; at the same time she struggles against people with fast, long-reach weapons due to her lack of any kind of ranged attack

Definitely, Cinder was still recovering, so bit of a pass, but Neo had her on the back foot that entire fight until Cinder broke out the Maiden powers. I think that Neo blames Cinder 100% and doesn't really blame Ruby at all. After all, Neo and Roman were trying to kill her at the time, and as a professional, Neo would understand that Ruby was simply defending herself. However, it was all Cinder's plan and planning that got Roman killed, so it's Cinder's fault.

I sort of doubt Roman is actually dead. When he was ate by the nevermore it swallowed him hole, how would Neo have the hat? Plus in one of the books (I forgot exactly which character it was) was swallowed by a Grimm And cut it open from the inside. So Roman could just blow it open from the inside with his cane. Also The nevermore that ate Roman if you look at the scene as the airship is blowing up you see the one that supposedly ate Roman flying away.

I believe this is quite literally her best song as an artist. It went so well with the fight and the lyrics said what Neo couldn't. Very nice execution on this particular song. Lately Casey has been going in with the soundtrack. Shes really got some headboppers.

For the first FULL video for this soundtrack (not counting Nevermore since that was the end-credits song), you did an AMAZING job. It hasn't even been a day and you've already released a video. While this isn't my favorite from the soundtrack (Indomitable and Forever Fall are currently my favorites, you picked a great song to start off the line of videos that's gonna be coming in the coming weeks/months. Honestly, I'm happy to see this and I can't wait to see the rest! Great job!
