+MrShadow974 think of it like this, ruby is seemingly the cutest, most naive, and most innocent character in all of RWBY, however, she has the largest, most difficult to use, and most devastating weapon in the entire show, and she uses this to its fullest potential. whenever she fights grimm in melee combat shes always insanely brutal, often times decapitating, bisecting, or otherwise mutilating the grimm far past the point of efficiency (shes also the only character in the show to have drawn blood from grimm). Ruby Rose is a ticking time bomb, and when she finally goes off... well... lets just say nothing thats been shown so far in volume 3 would have a chance at stopping her...

I'm halfway through volume 3 at the moment and Ruby's only technically the main character, she had some minor plot relevance (e.g. falling into Torchwick's hideout randomly in the middle of the night & being the one to see Cinder hack into the CCTS) but besides that she feels very normal. Despite the team being named after Ruby she's just another member, she doesn't have any unique main character powers yet and her screen time it's kinda sparse. :(

Ruby was only a toddler when Summer died, and even though Ruby was affected by it and she visits the grave when she can, she wasn't old enough to understand at the time (as Yang pointed out). This song seems to be about some one who witnessed Summers death, or was told how she died "every nightmare just discloses: It's your blood that's red like roses" The lyrics "baby please don't do what I did" ruins this a bit though, because it definetely sounds like Summer not wanting Ruby to grow up and become a huntress ("waste your life in vain").

This song captures my feelings when my mom died. especially the beginning lyrics "All the joy that i had known for all my life, was stripped away from me the minute that you died" When Mom died I felt empty, I even lost the child hood home I grew up in because my aunt couldn't keep up the rent payment. "Can't help that I had taken you for granted" Like most kids I loved my mom, but I don't think I fully appreciated her until she died. "I wasn't dreaming when they told me you were gone , I was wide awake and feeling that they had to be wrong" I at first didn't believe my dad when he said my mom died, I truly thought he was wrong. "How could you leave me when you swore that you would stay" My mom had this stomach disease where she couldn't digest anything, she assured me it wasn't anything fatal. We really thought she was going to get better. The worst part was it wasn't the disease that killed her, her blood pressure dropped severely low when she was in rehab when she was trying to get her strength back. "Would I change it if I could" I thought about what I could do to have avoided her death, I feel like it could have been avoided. She noticed it before it got to the point she was hospitalized. She was a strong, stubborn woman, in the end, i feel like it was that stubborness that killed her. "Now I'm nothing but a liar, and you're thrown into the fray " Mom assured me that her disease wasn't anything fatal, and she turned out to be wrong, we really thought she was going to get better. "And no matter what I do Nothing ever takes the place of you" I still have my Dad, a loving stepmother, a younger stepsister who comes to visit every other weekend, tons of people willing to support me, a great future ahead, and even a new baby sibling on the way. But no matter what, nothing will ever fill the void that she left when she passed away. I can't be the only one who relates to this song, reply how you guys relate, and if you ever lost a loved one.

Wow... I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mom seemed like a very important person in your life. Death is something no one can avoid, everyone will go eventually, so while we're here, let us make everything matter and cherish our short amount of time we do have here. I lost my cousin in october, we grew up together very close and as we reached teenage years ended up finding the same friend circle. He felt more like a brother then a cousin, we were best friends and no one knew me on the inside quite like he did. We made mistakes together, laughed together, lived together at points, even worked together. I miss him everyday and cant believe hes gone. About two years before it happend i moved away to a different city, at the time it felt like the right thing to do, now i feel like i abandoned him, i feel like maybe if i had stayed thing would have been different. Sometimes i even feel like it should have been me. I truly dont believe ill ever feel that connection with anyone ever again in my life. I lost my best friend and i dont know how to keep going, sometimes it feels like im empty inside now. But reading comments on youtube for certain videos really helps me realize im not the only one who feels this way, and if i look hard enough there are people who i can reach out to, to help me pull through. I have a feeling it'll come to a head soon. It's been strongly implied Salem or one of her subordinates killed Summer, so when Ruby finds out who and faces them that's when I think she'll snap. She'll be forced to feel the pain she always buries and actually talk and open up. She has to learn she doesn't have to do everything alone, she works well on a team when it's business, grimm, or Huntress work. But not personal matters like loss or feeling insecure or scared she never opens up. That could be a great character arc for her.

Well not with that attitude. Besides Ruby hasn't needed development like the other girls. All their problems are external Ruby's are purely internal and drives the plot rather than the plot driving her (like Weiss and Yang and Blake). The writer's have discussed Ruby in recent Q & A's so I'm sure she'll have a bigger role this volume but we'll just have to wait and see like always.

Ker Dunne It's been 5 years, it can handle a little more snark. Even if you don't want to focus on Ruby though, it's still important. We don't have anything interesting about her drive, other than to be a huntress. Like, okay cool? Isn't there anything else to supplement it? And even if you didn't want to expand on her motivations etc that doesn't excuse Ruby slowly regressing into the piece of cardboard that's on screen right now. Remember when Ruby was this socially awkward girl who geeks out over weapons a lot? Remember when she struggled to catch up with her peers, due to her being bumped up two years early? Remember when she had even an inkling of sense as to how to fight the bad guys?

Because she changed, she still has her silly moments but she's not the innocent doe-eyed girl from the first volumes she can't be anymore. She's not a cynic but a realistic optimist. Ruby's always been guarded about her feelings, she's never expressed her negative emotions and after the trauma sustained from the Fall of Beacon, she represses those emotions even more. If she ever does talk about them she cancels them out with positive emotions. Ruby doesn't let herself feel. She's built up being a hero and making the world a better place as a way to cope first from losing her mom (as highlighted in her theme) and now to cope with losing her friends. But more than that her goal is to be a Huntress so no one else suffers the same tragedy she has. The other main characters all have somewhat selfish goals. Ruby's is entirely selfless, fame and glory mean nothing to her helping people is what she lives for. Ruby knows the world can be dark but she hasn't lost hope. Especially in her world where the grimm feed off negativity Ruby holds herself to her duties as a leader almost too seriously. That's the beauty of Ruby, she's so simple that the simplicity turns to complexity once you delve into the details. I don't feel like arguing all night so let's agree to disagree. I'm excited for Volume 6 so let's try to keep things positive okay?

I'm both sad yet intrigued by this song. Other than it's badassness and depressing undertone of Ruby being angry and sad her mother died and left her while her mother is also sad that she left...I'm curious as to why they're both saying that Ruby has to "finish this fight." I mean, sure, it could just be alluding to the fact that she was born destined to be a warrior because of her eyes just like her mother or the fact that Ruby is following in Summer's footsteps...but why does it sound like Summer was doing something important other than just a routine mission and now Ruby has to finish it? I'm probably thinking too much into this but could Ruby be a maiden? I mean, there was that whole bit about the maiden powers being passed onto the last person the dying maiden thought of (as long as they were a girl) and it would be pretty much a given that Summer's last thoughts would be of Ruby. So finishing something that Summer failed to wouldn't totally be out of the question.

I can usually manage up until the bridge. At that point, their lines are overlapping, so you don't get to take a breath. The only point I can see to sneak one is right after "Would I change it if I could?" If you don't take it *right* then and super quick, you don't get a breath until the end of the bridge. A lot of times I don't make it, but every now and then I pull it off and I'm pretty proud of that ;) Edit: I take that back. There's the part about petals that gives you a nice break. Is this supposed to be Ruby and her mom? Becuase every song means something for the girls Blakes is about her hard life as a fanus, and weiss is about her strict childhood in her families shadow trying to live up to a perfect standard. This is clearly talking about someone dying here, Ruby's mom is dead, and this is the second part to Ruby's theme so it makes sense.
