Years late to the party, I know, but... rather than getting a Rider Waite deck to start off with, I went with Everyday Tarot instead (minimalist purple and gold deck) specifically because all of the yellow and red in the Rider Waite art was repelling me, and I was just feeling purple. Now, I'd found somewhere else that I should go through my cards and take time to really look at them as a form of bonding and I admit that, in doing this with my Everyday Tarot, I was drawing a decent amount of blanks. You're talking about colors and symbolism here, and this makes so much sense to me NOW -- so much so that I wish anyone I'd stumbled across in my research had said that is part of what makes Rider Waite *the* deck for beginners -- and I wonder if I'm missing out, or if, given my aversion to the Rider Waite colors, my particular flavor of intuition may work best with darker hues. fwiw, despite drawing blanks on cards initially and still drawing cards that make me wonder what their significance is in the spread, I feel like things are coming along now. It shuffles much more willingly and I feel like I've gleaned a bit of its personality. Very pentacles obsessed Drill Sargent in regard to me. Regardless, I hope more curious beginners find this before picking a deck.

I do this too, if I don't know what a card means to me I start describing it and an interpretation comes from there. It is actually the same method as I have been taught for literary analysis at university: first describe your object and then make claims about a certain interpretation :)

+Kim R. Ahhh, yeah! I am digging that literary analysis comparison.

I am currently bonding with my deck and this is a wonderful tip that I will also apply in intensive journal writing classes that I run. Thanks!

This is the first video of yours I watched, I was flipping through videos to find something to learn about my new tarot deck, even with your title, it was the first video that seemed real and genuine, not just out for the views. I’m glad I clicked it! This is a great piece of advice! Honestly, I’m a little afraid to get started, but I tend to feel that in most of my endeavors 😅 but I can’t wait to see if it helps unravel some mystery for me.

I love looking at cards with my husband. He has a perspective I don't have and I'm often blown away by his insight, which helps me dive deeper too. So many layers. I m do filled by tarot. Spirit unfolds. Heaven is within us, Jesus reminded us, and with tarot I can see that.

Things don't have to be complicated to be really great. I like this easy way of connecting with the cards and I enjoyed your interpretations of The wild unknown ☺

This is a great tip. I also leave it lay where I see it periodically throughout the day or even two or three days. I pick it up and study it often. And I nearly always pick out more things. Great tip! Thank you.

I just started reading tarot cards about 5 months ago. I started reading with my intuition because I'm an intuitive person. I JUST got my 10th deck and it was my first traditional ryder waite deck. I'm finding it more difficult to read than my other decks! lol So, I guess I'm going backwards. I've been reading intuitively and now I'm learning the symbolism of the traditional tarot system.

This sounds like a really great way to bond and may partly explain why I feel more bonded with my first deck than with any others I've got too; when I only had the one deck I did this, I did a daily draw and sat with the card & thought about it and wrote about it & read about it, now I have more decks (still not many though) I guess I feel time poor with regards to spending time with them.

+Neoma Bushnell I know what you mean. It took me a year and a half to do this with every card in the Wild Unknown. It's a process for sure. I still have decks I haven't even started doing this with!

Great advice. I will give it a try. I have memory problems when it comes to reading the Tarot, maybe this method would help me.

Then your not into Tarot, who cares? If one truly LOVES Tarot passionately as is a student, reader and collector…but mostly an enraptured student. I’ve been studying & growing with the tarot since 1984, I was 13. So 39yrs and I’ll never stop being inspired by the Tarot…… If you’re not….then Meh.

The one big problem I have is when I deal with a deck that only illustrate the coins/Pentacles. They are all identical except for the amount of coins, so, how can you find any detail on the card that would associate, unless you know the meaning?
@larvalangel6 жыл бұрын
shapes and numbers. 100%. if you haven't considered these things too deeply, it may take a bit to get into... but shapes and numbers are very evocative of emotions, impressions and visions once you are able to merge/blend with them consciously.
