Yes! Love this one! - I think I should pick up some smaller squid jigs too and next time we’re out let’s take a live bait setup and see if we can get on to some kings as well 👍🏽

Reefing the squid in! Nice colour on the jig. I agree that a small one seems to nail them I used either a 1.8 or a 2.5, last time was via the boat around.south head and also near cobblers, but they were huge calamari.

I think if you have the ability to move in a boat it's probably a different game, I think if you are a bit deeper the bigger jigs may make sense. where I was there was probably 40cm of water over the weed

yeah yozuri and yamashita (which are somehow the same thing but also different things at the same time) are THE only thing you really need for squids. Red and pink.

Taylor's Bay in mosman. BUT the key if you really want to get onto some squid is finding them. So I would recommend finding long stretches of fishable edges and popping a few casts on each patch of kelp as you go. Once you finish that area on your walk back, maybe change jig size. Change location again and keep going. I haven't been squiding in ages because it can be a bit of a punish especially if you see other fish you want to target

Really anywhere with kelp. And you just need to move till you find a patch. I was thinking clontarf would be good and the rocks seem quite easy to walk across

Hi mate coming down from Melbourne very soon to this spot hoping to catch a few squiddies! was wondering howd you get to that spot you are in right now and is it cool to fish low tide or high tide. Thinking of bringing my family along but don’t want them to get wet. Cheers

maps.app.goo.gl/ujXZWq28YBNhQgdA6 this is the spot and parking, it's a fun spot but a bit treacherous with shaded moss and oysters. If you are interested in family fun, around the corner at clifton Gardens is basically the same water but there is a jetty, and other stuff for those who don't want to fish (snorkelling/beach). Most people fish bait there and there and my friends take their kids there to catch yakkas

Do you think there are any squids at tom ugly's bridge? I've never seen anyone squiding there and I've been having no luck for multiple days :(
@cballzoutdoors
@cballzoutdoors 3 ай бұрын
You need to move to find a patch of them, they move a lot and you normally find a bunch in one spot. I would generally not think an area with strong current rushing past is a would hold them so maybe a bridge like that is a bit too much for them.

Nicely done! By the way, EGI translate into "Bait Wood" in Japanese. Squid is actually "IKA". This oldest Japanese lure used to be made of wood. That's why. Just so you know.😊

Are they hiding amongst the sea weeds?
@cballzoutdoors
@cballzoutdoors 4 ай бұрын
That's it! They sit in or around kelp and rocks and the slow sinking lure means it floats in their face a bit longer.

I dont have the link to a site, but you could get something very similare at BCF with 1.6-1.8 size yamashita in glow. this is very close to the jig but not sure what size it is. basically get something very small that sinks slowly. squidjigs.com.au/product/yo-zuri-auireq-sink-blmp-75mm/

It fishes way better for squid at high, but be ready to get wet up to your groin amd the rocks are particularly slippery so spikes won't hurt

@cballzoutdoors
@cballzoutdoors Жыл бұрын
my friend who bought it for me recommended, Orange, Pink and in glow colours. you can get some reasonably priced Yamashita ones at bcf that are 1.6 -1.8 size that should be light enough to have a very slow sink rate but being light cast distance is a bit sad in the wind.

so the two bigger ones were smallish size calamari (which do get massive). The others were arrow squid which dont really get that big and are apparently more tasty (and you shouldn't feel so bad about getting something so small)
