Good illustration. But here is the thing: regardless the slab is supported on two or four edges, it's a all about Ly/Lx. i.e., we can have a slab supported on four edges yet it can be classifies as a one-way slab coz Ly/Lx >2, in such case (as a designer) there's no need to support the slab with beams on all edges as two beams only will suffice.

it could be Ly/Lx < 2 and supported only by beams going in one direction, this is considered one-way slab, that's why you need to take into consideration the method of construction. (Material sometimes can affect the distribution of the load too)

@@exotic5035 It's not wrong. Ly/Lx ratio will demostrate the actual slab behaviour, then it's all up to the engineer (designer). But basically, it's all about the ratio (regardless you put the beams in one direction or two). Leeme ask you, a 3mx15m slab supported on all edges, would you classify it as one-way or two-way and why ?

Muhannad Husain so your telling me that if we have 2 beams supporting a slab in one direction could act in a two way slab depending on the Ly/Lx ratio? , and for the answer 4 beams supporting an edge in 2 direction with it ratio being >>2 then it’s definitely a one way slab which means that those two 3m beams are nearly holding negligible loadings.

Dear You are right " the Exact Definition is One way slab is a slab which is supported by beams on the two opposite sides to carry the load along one direction. Two way slab is a slab supported by beams on all the four sides and the loads are carried by the supports along with both directions.
