Borg-Warner developed the sprag and it is stronger than a roller clutch size for size. More expensive to manufacture though. The original 700R4 had a roller clutch on the front sun gear. It was soon changed to a sprag.

Could you do a video setting the end play on the turbine shaft of a trans? Maybe on the 6l80 or 10r80 you had ?

5:42. Incorrect information. When the sprag fails in a 4l60(E), you have NO forward motion at all in the automatic range. You have manual 1,2,3 because the overrun clutches are applied in manual range.
