Glad I found this video. My E 10 which was in storage for almost 20 years has somehow had one of the lens elements come loose, rattling, and I wanted to see the disassembly process- wow! Killer job. So I guess it will go on Craigslist as a parts camera. Too bad I was thinking of starting to use it again. Hopefully the screw one wide angle and tele lenses are still good. Maybe I could offer them for sale and throw in the E 10 for free.

Looks like it was a pretty high quility camera back in its day. Olympus made some badass cameras back in the day. Shame they are gone now.

What a beast of a camera for having only a single 4x zoom lens: a heap of aluminium, dual cards, big sensor and no interchangeable lens system I can see why they are cheap now.

Interesting breakdown, thank you. The cost of design, development, and complex manufacture of this monstrosity must've been stonking! Also sad to see how some technology is quickly outmoded and wasted.

imagine them having to 3D design all the little plastic parts that fit inside this. then making all the different mold for the making of those parts and finnally the assembly of everything without a single mistake.

@@Francois_Dupont You're right, having been involved in injection moulding - I know about the complexities and cost. The cynical side of me says this is all about non-repairable built-in deletion (they want us to buy another), but surely the working optics and basic structure are more or less near future proof. And, it doesn't take much forethought to modulise this camera type: Battery pack, CCD module, storage media, CPU and firmware etc., could all be upgraded? It needs our governments to 'encourage' manufactures to implement such notions, after all, there's still considerable money to be made doing it this way. Or is it just me?

@@beamer.electronics i am all for fixability, but could they still make the same product with the same compactness? when you think about this, with cellphones, having the battery glued and shut inside save 2~mm compared to having a door or something so people access it. it also save on the frame and stiffness, so they can use the battery as a brace inside.
