Great video, that greyhound driver was hilarious. Even got a quick cameo of the old camper trailer!

Nice find and another great video. In my 95, I have to lift the brake pedal with the top of my left foot for cruise to turn on - brake light switch is a little out of adjustment. Hope the gray matter in the oil filler isn't some sort of a sealer to Band-Aid something. Looking forward to more with this one. And always fun to catch a glimpse of the Montero Corral from when you picked up Cochise.

Good tip on the brake switch, will look into that. I was thinking the silver paste on the oil tube shelf could indeed be an additive - like zinc hopefully as I'm not familiar with any engine oil stop leaks that are metallic and like a paste, they're usually translucent liquids from what I've found. The next step will be an oil change and sending a sample to Blackstone for analysis.

REALLY excited to see what a veteran like yourself recommends to do to a '98. Not completely sure, but think mine gets even worse MPG on 33s. RPMs are higher than I'd like, but I attributed that to driving an LS V8 for the last 20 years. The main enemy in my area is rust, besides that factor, a rundown on parts-cannoning for max longevity would be welcome.

~3K rpm at 65-70mph is normal on these 6G7 engines in a 2nd gen Montero.

My cruise never worked correctly. It intermittently works but the last time it worked when I tried to decelerate it acted real weird where the temps were rising and it was trying to find the right gear. I had to turn off the cruise and come to a stop and everything went back to normal. So I don't use cruise and haven't had the issue since. I haven't gone deep to investigate, but wondering if it's the cruise control actuator box under the hood is the issue.

That’s so amazing, $36 for 2 years. Here in WA it’s $140 for 1 year for my 01 montero… how much did you pay for it?

Nice looking truck, glad that your trip was a success. I have a 95 SR and the wind noise is pretty bad, I actually get a rattling sound that I can't quite place......maybe the electric mirrors? Do you know if that's a possible noise location for the Gen 2s?

Make sure it's not something under the seats before driving yourself crazy. If it's not that, I recommend checking that all the exhaust hangers are attached. As for the wind noise, I have it on a 96 SR and there's evidence it was a theft recovery, as the driver side door window frame is bent outwards noticeably. Even then, these rig weren't the quietest when new.

@@ElijahDecker Thanks! I think I figured it out. the metal windshield trim was loose. It's still noisy but no more rattle.
