Chevy's Silverado gets a refresh for the 2022 model year, with tweaks to the exterior, a crisp new interior design with a much larger infotainment screen, and new features throughout the truck - like GM’s super-handy Multi-Flex tailgate.
PLUS, joining the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines and the V6 diesel is a new FOUR-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
So is this new engine up to the task of saving fuel while still giving truck owners the power and capabilities they’re looking for? We grabbed an all-new LT model and took it on a road trip to find out.

I bought my 2019 Silverado LT 2.7T almost 3 yrs ago. I only drove it a total of about 15000 miles. Mixed driving for the duration. My overall average mileage for that entire period was 21.9 mpg. Easily 25 - 26 mpg on cross country roads. Plenty of power for whatever I did. My previous was a GMC 2007 2500HD, before that a Sierra 1999 2500. Those two 2500 were used for towing a 5th wheel. I was so pleased with the 2019 I just traded for 2022 LT with a 2.7T. Wanted a new truck with more safety features. I believe the 2.7T is more than adequate for most.

I have a 2022 Silverado LT with the 2.7 4 cylinder turbo. I have 6K miles on the engine. I disagree 100% with you regarding the engine power. I've owned three previous Silverado's all with the 5.3 engine. This 4 cylinder turbo has "MORE" power than the 5.3. I'm quite amazed at the power that is produced by this engine. I have no problem on steep climbing hills and I pass slower vehicles with little or no effort. With regards to mileage, I commute several times a week with a 150 mile round trip. I've checked my mileage with each tank. I'm averaging around 21.5 mpg freeway and 18.5 in town. I'm sure that all of this is dependent upon how one drives their Silverado, but I'm quite happy with the motor and I'm glad I didn't get the 5.3. This is a nice powerful truck!

Hey there! My dad and I are looking to buy I believe the exact model you have and just making sure it's a good deal. I keep reading about issues with the sliverado trucks, does this model have any? How is the truck doing now thst you've been driving it? We are thinking of getting the Chevrolet Silverado LT boss trail 2.7 4 cylinder turbo that has 6k miles on it for around $42,000. Is that a good deal? Appreciate a h info and if you think the truck will last long. Thank you in advance!!

As a full time, Long term owner of a 2.7L I4, I can tell you that this is a completely biased review against the engine. I think the I4 has tons of power, is geared really well, and can tow like a boss. Also, the 3.0L 6-cylinder engine he’s referring to is Inline. Not V.

I'm a 2023 Silverado Custom owner, coming from a tuned 2019 GTI. The Silverado is no rocket, but it's very torquey on the low end - exactly what you need in a truck. It goes uphill no problem, loafing along at RPMs in the teens. Mine is fresh off the lot, so I'm still on the first tank of gas and can't comment yet on MPG.

This guy is completely WRONG when he says the 4 cylinder engine doesn't have enough power. I guarantee he had a negative attitude about it before he drove it. The 4 cylinder turbo will beat the 5.3 V8 in a drag race and will town up to 9,000 lbs. This engine has plenty of power for most people. I drive the Silverado 6.2 liter with 460 foot pounds of torque and the 2.7 turbo has 430 foot pounds of torque. I know plenty of people love this 4 cylinder turbo and the power it provides.

It replaces the old 4.3 V6 with 285 hp. Go buy a 6.2 if you need more power. Most people can't tell the difference between the 2.7 and 5.3 except for the sound coming out of the back.
