That's true. Cloud was completely outmatched in the film as you can see. He was giving it his all while Sephiroth was just playing with him. As you can see, Cloud used a cheat. He separated his Fusion Swords, making him attack using his Omnislash Version 5/6 (depends on the version of the film).

it helps to remember, in terms of cloud's injuries, that a point blank shot to the face while moving at high speeds on a motor cycle only removes his goggles. So... when he gets stabbed a gazillion times, and then shot through the heart at the end of the movie... his shoe laces probably did come undone at some point.

@SonGokuTheGreat If I remember right, the Sephiroth in the first game actually was Jenova mutated to look like Sephiroth and was being controlled by Sephiroth, but it wasn't the original Sephiroth. Nobody was willing to drag his crazy ass out of that gross Mako in the Nibelheim Reactor. If I remember right, there wasn't even anything left to retrieve. The Mako burned him away. This Jenova stuff means that he could keep coming back as long as there's Jenova cells. Thanks, Tetsuya Nomura...

+TheSebto360 It's just a theory...a game theory, really how can you miss that? He's admitted that there are other variables. In addition it's very clear that the creators intended for her to be dead, I highly doubt that they had the idea of her being buried alive anywhere in their minds. Even if she were alive, hypothetically, an injury like that would make someone appear dead. The odds of anyone knowing this would be remote so there would be no reason to worry, and there wasn't since they did bury her. Even if they did know, the odds of her surviving or even making it to some place for help in time would be...again...remote. Even IF she did live, she would never walk again and likely have brain damage, so she would still not be a threat anymore. Aerith never had a chance the moment the sword pierced her. As for Cloud, though some might disagree he has never really come close to defeating Sephiroth. In Crisis Core Sephiroth chose to jump into the Lifestream, he didn't stay to fight. As for after that, Omnislash is the only thing that ever grants him victory, without it the fight would be as good as over. In Advent Children Cloud goes the entire fight without landing so much as a scratch on Sephiroth. At the end of the fight Sephiroth hasn't broken a sweat, yet Cloud is on his hands and knees bleeding. If Omnislash hadn't worked he would have been done, he literally had to use every sword in his arsenal to win. Now if the move was the same as at the end of VII, odds are Sephiroth would have known what to do, but the move was drastically different. It also seems to freeze and disorient the opponent, there's no avoiding it, especially if you don't see it coming. Unless it changes yet again, odds are Sephiroth should figure out how to avoid it or stop him from using it by the next fight. Then again I doubt Square would want Sephiroth winning, even if he should by all accounts, so who know what will happen. Still, he's immortal. Anyway you should at least take all of this, and probably more, into account before forming opinions. Just as Gametheory usually implies, there's always a lot to consider. But if your opinions still remain unchanged, then so be it, I just wanted to speak for the other side :) Plus does thinking a character failed or made a mistake, even though I still don't think he did, really make you think less of them? If anything be happy that he never gives up, no matter what happens he never loses sight of his dreams and goals, he always comes back to continue the fight. His determination and dedication is unrivaled. And @lilbig, If and when he does do that I don't see how it's ever gotten in the way, so it wouldn't be a downfall. This instance would be the last I'd imagine someone would think he was toying with his opponent, I mean how was he? He jumped down and thrust a sword right through her, no messing around. It was over in moments. On top of which this was Jenova, not Sephiroth, although we still don't know who was in control. I always say that it's irrelevant anyway since they both work together, have the same goals, and would have killed Aerith. My point is, Aerith's death was a swift, one hit kill so I'm not sure what you're talking about..

If jenova is still out there somewhere (the real one somehow) or just clones and fragments of her then he'll keep coming back as long as she's still out there since jenova's his mother. I love final fantasy just about as much as you so the feeling's kinda mutual lol.

As a pathetic Sephiroth fangirl, I looked into it and found out that the real Sephiroth hasn't been been back since he took a dive at the reactor during the Nibelheim incident. Kay, so he died and figured out how to control clones of himself from the Lifestream. That's what happened in Final Fantasy VII and in Advent Children, Kadaj said he could "feel him" which means he could feel Sephiroth pushing him onward.
