The woman paid them off because she was aware that them staying was totally legal- but she PERSONALLY no longer wanted them there. People need to take this as a learning lesson; if you rent out with Airbnb, stick within their contracts. When you go into other territories and extend stays outside of them, it's YOUR own fault. If she hadn't done that and the people refused to leave, she could have called the police and they would have had to go. Nobody is excluded from California law, buuuuuut it’s going to be hard for squatters to prove you hired a alpha friend that respects a ladies space to come teach them some manners. You can’t prosecute someone if you don’t know who they are just turn the cameras off. No lawyers going to take this case without evidence or a down payment. It’s sad they take advantage of a already sad situation, then proceed to scam her into paying them more then they owed her for the rental to begin with, it’s a lesson learned though because it’s her fault for voiding the Airbnb contract.
@BPtruth5 жыл бұрын
Since there’s no record of them ever getting a rental on Airbnb then there’s no evidence you ever accepted their cash or made a agreement. If they call the cops just deny the rental arrangement, say they are robbing your house, and that you’ve never seen them before in your life.

@@BPtruth I agree 100%. Really it could have been a more simpler resolution: Have male associate come over, "Hey, my female friend and I would like some privacy. Please leave.". *Sternly*. Something similar happened to me this weekend. A lady who was supposed to check-out at 11 am maximum ended up checking out at 5:30 pm. From that morning she asked to extend her reservation for two more nights which I agreed to her request… she kept putting on excuses not to pay saying the system didn’t notified her etc… at 3:30 pm Airbnb’s Ambassador tells me she is not willing to cooperate and she yelled on the phone to him saying she was shopping and she didn’t had time to attend the call. The Ambassador recommends me to set on the security alarm, which as soon as I turned it on she begs me to turn it off telling me she will be out of the house in 15 mins (she obviously lied about doing shopping and was actually at the house). I don’t understand how this lady stayed for 6 hours after check-out time without any guilt. She started insulting me calling me every bad word you could imagine, threatening me that she would sued me because I forced her to leave my home with her children. I don’t live in the same city as the house. I did what I could to prevent her staying for free. The police told me what she did was trespassing because she had no authorization to be at someone else’s property since check-out time had passed. I am traumatized by this and hopefully it never happens again.

They went to have the couple removed and they locked the bedroom door on them. One of my brothers kicked the door open, and they tried to call the cops but my brothers took their phones and busted it, and had them out with their belongings in matters of 10 minutes. They did call the cops from someone else's phone, and my sister spoke with the cops and told them that she dont live there, and was there for a weekend only, and she did not pay rent. The couple couldn't prove that they were living with her, and so the cops had them escorted off the property. My sister did lie to the cops, but she knew that they couldn't prove anything, and didnt want to deal with the bs of their damn rights..Give a person an inch, and they take a yard! Lesson learned!

As a Swiss, I can tell you that I would never book an Airbnb. Here in Switzerland there are many black sheep who install hidden cameras in bedrooms and apartments. For example, there were some incidents in Interlaken, Spiez, Zug, Zurich, Flüelen, etc. These are usually not even Swiss but rather foreigners who rent the apartment, then put it online as Airbnb and, for example, put nude photos of women online. There have been a few reports about this, but nothing like this has ever been widely publicized. Who wants to know something like that?

He’s talking about the law. Many people rent homes in California because homes at expensive and all the rich people already bought them all(good luck Texas and the rest of the states where these rich people are now moving their businesses to, you’ll have the same problems soon enough). For a normal person who isn’t scamming or trying to do anything wrong, getting evicted overnight is horrible and it can take time to find another affordable place to live so 30 days is reasonable. In a situation like this, well, it’s the homeowners fault for making their home a hotel to begin with.

They started off paying late, then skipped on months, and finally stopped paying for over a year. Police wouldn’t do anything about it because the owner was out of the country. Eventually they ended up leaving BUT not without first setting the kitchen on FIRE! They were so afraid of the fire department and police showing up that they left in a hurry. She was most likely advised by a lawyer to not engage and to ride it out the way she did so as not to cause more liability on her side. That way the law directly deals with the squatters rather than it potentially backfire. Clearly it's not their first rodeo, and just because you're nice and timid doesn't mean you're weak/vulnerable/unable to do anything about the situation. Just means work smart not hard.
@Babu-kr3cr7 ай бұрын
@@EeliusAstaroth When you are around certain people, being nice doesn't pay.
@EeliusAstaroth7 ай бұрын
@@Babu-kr3cr depends on your perspective and how well you handle the situation. In this case obviously it quite literally pays as she is in favor of the law thanks to her niceties rather than against. Otherwise, you can retain boundaries while still being nice, and people forget to distinguish the two as they sacrifice their protection while simultaneously putting the blame on their behavior when it's not actually the case. It's simply the easier thing to do. There really isn't any deterrent or negativity of being nice. If there is it is minimum in comparison. The main thing is whether or not you allow others to take advantage of it, and even then there isn't much to lose from it when in the face of other alternatives. Even if you fail to succeed at what you were trying to accomplish there's still lessons within that time to learn from if you allow yourself to do so. I think given the outcome and reasonings this case is a good example of that to prove otherwise. Especially since someone else here commented previously supporting that basis of debate. Yes they had to deal with the aftermath, but the other course would have led them to an even greater loss where they wouldn't even be able to have a chance to fix the damages. Even in critical moments being nice provides a calm demeanor that allows the person to think and react more appropriately to the situation. You can still defend yourself be it with words or action. Most other emotions would get you in trouble/may cause you to react in a way that ends up being more at a cost. People like this count on others to react poorly so they can continue to utilize the law in their favor whereas others who react in retaliation have the disadvantage of playing into the other person's hand. In this case, the squatters.

I was thinking something similar. Remove all doors, change locks, remove all of my valuable belongings, turn off utilities, do whatever it takes to make it uncomfortable for them. But the best advice is to NEVER let any one move in with you unless you are willing to have them stay (for free). The only time it's "safe" is when you are a renter and you can move out at the end of your lease.
@user-tj1rk3sx7c3 жыл бұрын
during covid no one had to pay rent for like 8 months. It was illegal to evict anyone. So alot of people were stuck in this situation for months and yes, you could be sued for "emotional damage" of having no door, they could go out to eat every day and sue you for how much it cost, you would get the cops called for disturbing the peace. In almost every state you have to have a months notice. Why people who get evicted get sympathy idk they got a free months rent essentially. Then if they pay any % of it they can basically cancel it because usually (depending on the state) the document says a specific amount and if its not that amount owed it gets thrown out. Then if you pay the months rent that was due at the end of the month it also negates it and they have to restart the process. I feel nothing but pity for the landlord that has to evict a tenant.

If they tried to mess something of mine up I'd act like fooseytube and make them afraid of me. Yep :)

I watched a video about a similar occurrence a few months ago. Except this happened with a granny flat/guest house type property and the "guest" pulled the same scam, then proceeded to threaten the owner and try to write him up on things that weren't up to code. But when the owner tried to fix things to be compliant, she refused to let them in for the repairs. She ended up staying there for free for over 6 months I think. I can't remember what eventually forced her to move out but apparently she had pulled the same scam at her previous airbnb booking as well but that owner paid her to leave. So ridiculous.

I had a scary Airbnb experience too, only I was the renter! I had rented from this guy who had two cats. He wanted someone to rent his place and take care of the cats because he was away. He insisted that I feed his cats only RAW meat. I thought it was weird and creepy. The cats were very strange. I grew up with cats and was a nursing mother to lots of kittens, sick, or injured cats. My house was like an animal shelter. My Mum has a good heart, so we took em all in. Point is, I KNOW cats, and these cats just weren't right. I don't know what he was doing to them. Anyway, about one week into staying there, he told me he was coming to town and he needed to share his place with me for one night. I was naive and said okay but something just didn't feel right. The bedroom was designed differently. Sure it had a door, but one of the walls had a HUGE opening in it to the living room, so there was no privacy. I told a friend of mine what was happening and asked him if I could stay with him for one night, he said "Of course!". When the guy came to town, I told him that I was staying elsewhere to give him his space, and that he could have his apartment to himself (even though I had paid for it). He insisted for us to meet up, but when I told him that my friend would give me a ride, his energy shifted. He told me that he didn't feel well, and that he had decided to stay another night "You should come stay here" he said. I told him not to worry about it. The next day, he insists again to see me, "I want to show you something in my apartment" he said. I had a knot in my stomach, I just knew something wasn't right. I decided not to mention my friend this time and told him that I would meet up with him. I told my friend what was happening and asked him to come with me. He did. When we got to the building, the guy thought that I had Ubered. When he saw my friend with me, his mood changed, he face changed color, and he got MAD. We walk into the apartment and he goes like "Look I cleaned the balcony, this is the shower, this is the kitchen" I'm looking at my friend like "Is he serious right now?". Long story short, before you know it, he was attacking my friend "You don't live here, you're trespassing". He pushed my friend outside and locked the door with me inside. Thankfully, my friend is an athlete and is very strong, so it wasn't easy to push him out, it took a while, and during that time I managed to called 911 and give the address. Once my friend was out, he yelled off of the top of his head and viciously kicked the door over and over again, this got the attention of the neighbors and the guy inside who had started walking towards me got scared. He walked back to the door and opened it. BIG mistake. My friend kicked the door into his chest and made his way in. The neighbours had called the manager by now and the guy had no other option but to let me get my stuff and leave. He then quickly took his strange unfriendly cats, ran into his car and drove away before the cops showed up. I feel very lucky, and very grateful for my wonderful friend and for my intuition. My advice to all of you is, avoid Airbnb, you never know what kind of freak you're renting from or to. And always listen to your intuition. If something doesn't feel right, it properly isn't. This man had bad intentions. Rape, murder, kidnapping, who knows...Be aware, be careful, be safe ❤️

Never rent a residence for more than two weeks at a time. Once they stay long enough, they become tenants, have rights, and have to be evicted. That's why hotels/motels have a 28 day policy. You can check out and back in, but you can't stay 30 days on one contract. And don't expect Airbnb to help you, either. Guests could burn your house down and you're left with the mess!
