I had sewed many tiyps of skirts before , but I never think this way of making two layers. Thank u soooo much. U r really brelyant..

Very clever. I like that you use a wide hem. Grounds the skirt. So many demos show turning over a quarter inch hem. I haven't ever done a machine stiched hem, though. Lots of hand stitching for skirt hems. I can see a place for it though. Thanks for posting.

Laura~ I can't thank you enough for offering this tutorial to us. It's like you read my mind. My granddaughter starts kindergarten in two weeks and I was hoping to make just the right skirts for her. This fits the bill just perfect, it's adorable. Thank you again.

Love this! You could do a French seam and then the seam when on the right side will be finished.

I love all your videos, Laura. You are so clear, talented, and so lovely! My question is, what is the width of the fabric you have used, please? The fabric I have in mind is 54" wide and I plan to make 2 skirts for my granddaughters, aged 7 and 9. Once again, thank you so very much for your time and kindness in sharing a bit of your amazing knowledge! xx

Laura, would this idea work but joining two different fabrics (not sure where) - perhaps a solid for the "lower" skirt and a coordinating floral for the "upper" skirt?

Why not make the end of that under skirt seam a short slit rather than leave the seam allowance show?
