Concluding reflection as a text: I've been an observer and somewhat fascinated by the Jordan Peterson phenomenon. One of the interesting things is how many young men are drawn to his call to stand up straight, clean their rooms, tell the truth and take responsibility. He challenges people with great success. I compare this with the messaging in my Church, where for decades the opposite was proposed in pastoral meetings - and still is by an ageing generation of those comprising much of the leadership. The wisdom was and is - at least for some - to demand less and less from people. Coddling the faithful. The result? The men were the first to abscond themselves. By looking at today's pews it would appear that there are more manly religions than Christianity. The months I spent in Jerusalem many years ago, I found myself pondering this question looking at bearded patriarchs of the ultra-orthodox Jews and the sea of Arab men streaming to the temple mount for Friday prayer. Is my own faith more effeminate compared to those? There is a grain of truth in that. There is an emphasis of the female element in Christianity. The Church understands itself as the bride of Christ - its type is female. It's clergy, representing Christ, isn't, but still, as Church collectively and our souls individually, both are understood in the typology of a spousal relation, in which Christ is the head and groom. So a certain machismo will never adequately reflect the Christian Spirit. But all of this has been true from the beginning. It was true for the followers of Jesus, for the church fathers, for the first monks. But by no means does a reflection on history fail to show the most manliest of man embracing the cross. Even a few decades ago a page from a magazine for altar serves I bought on ebay out of curiosity had the image of Bishop Francis Xavier Ford, a US-catholic missionary who in 1952 died in a communist prison in China. Nothing in his story is effeminate. I liked the vintage artwork and framed the page that also asks its youthful readers in bold letters: “Will you take his place?”. It is a call meant to inspire - and to much more than cleaning your room - though I'm pretty sure the good bishop kept his office tidy. Christianity while rejecting machismo is certainly manly. Currently we just appear to make that hard to see for the many men who keep their distance. Catholics, without a doubt, would do well to overcome the insufferable clericalism of banal modern liturgies that condemn the faithful not only to a new passivity but infantilizes them. The whole strength of the clear, old rituals is to give men something to do, without being emasculated. This is one of the reasons, I suspect, why particularly men are drawn to traditional liturgies. But I digress. Aside from the draw that Jordan Peterson has on young men - something, I suggest we as priests should at least reflect on - there is an even more important thing that astounds me: namely how many people say that they have returned to a life of faith on account of him. It is not that it is embarrassing, that a Canadian psychologist can motivate more people to reflect on God than a worldly bishop preaching his shallow gospel promising “re-forms” to journalists. What is astounding is that Peterson himself is not exactly a believer. Now, much has happened over the years. He may have come to hold new positions and abandoned others. I don't know. The story of his wife and her discovery of the rosary is very touching. But if I'm not mistaken, so far in his books, at least those that I have read, and the interviews that I have heard, Peterson is not a Christian, but rather a follower of the Swiss analytical psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. That is to say: he is fascinated by the stories of the bible; He will spend hours unpacking what he thinks are hidden meanings of Genesis or Exodus; he is touched by the message and life of Jesus. You could even say that he is convinced of their truth. But he is not sure if any of it has actually happened in any real way. Jesus, for all that Peterson has stated, may never have existed at all, much less been the actual son of God made flesh. The particular story or better the myth he holds to be of the greatest value. But whether it is really historical to him seems secondary. That is perfectly Jungian, but it is not Christian in any real sense. Even if Peterson should have since changed his views, what remains is the fascinating circumstance that according to many comments I have read over the years, Peterson has been instrumental in the new found belief of many or in their taking it more seriously - all the while not being a believer himself - yet, maybe. I'm not sure what to make of that, or if indeed the new found faith of some will bear the same mythological marks as Peterson's. I unsurprisingly agree with him that the story of Christ is the greatest story ever told. I even agree that if it had not really happened Christ's story turning the logic of the world - and even of many conceptions of the divine - on its head would still make it the greatest and most unexpected story. The strangeness and persistence of Jewish monotheism, the scandal that not “a” god but “the” transcendent God became man; the logic of the cross defeating the logic of the world; the hour of defeat being really the hour of victory; loss being the only gain; It is a story of paradox. If many do not see its strangeness anymore, is because of the triumph of that very story. Tom Holland's book “Dominion” gives one account of it. He, another non-believer, suggests that even the modern rejection of God and the apparent alternative values promoted by its western opponents can only be really understood in light of the paradoxical victory of cross. Again, I agree, it is the greatest story. And it would contain great truths even if it were only a myth. But I contend it is not a mere story. I contend that its most important claim is that it is historical truth. The first great enemy of Christianity, who had persecuted the apostles, had said as much after unexpectedly being thrown off his high horse and seeing the light. “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith has been in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he raised Christ - whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.(1 Cor 15,13-19). The early Christians did not just look for timeless wisdom even if it came from the greatest story ever told. They were concerned with one thing: did it happen: his life, his death, his resurrection. Only if these are historically true, are we not to be pitied. Only if these things really happened do they warrant to turn the whole world and its fateful logic on its head, as Christ has done - or to stand on our own head in order to gain the true perspective. So, did it happen? And which argument would convince you?

After 40 years joyfully (mostly!) worshipping in various evangelical, pentecostal, protestant faith settings, the currents have led me to the 'simplicity' of the Liturgy, and infrequent Mass. I guess being in my late "70s and living in the Australian country side, more than 45 Km from the nearest church, contributed towards making me a Christmas, Easter, Weddings and funerals church goer. That is perhaps why I look forward so much to viewing your videos. The end reflections have become a substitute for Sunday mass for me. So thanks for that. Love this, i'm a converted Greek orthodox from being a Baptist...although I attend a Russian Orthodox Church.. i have found that waiting for your insight at the end tests my patience.,, however it is all worth it. i wonder sometimes when watching you going thru your building projects , you ever say," what did i get my self into.. i like the pond work you have done... at the age of 63, and a semi retired nurse i wish that we could turn off the daily noise and reflect more in the silence that draws us near to THe Saviour of our Souls

Lovely! I don't need to be convinced about the Greatest Story. I believe with all the faith my human heart and brain can muster. As for Mr. Peterson...remember his is a scientist first and foremost. This sort of training does not allow for faith, but measurable results. My father was an engineer and he used to say that when he looked at a tree, many times all he saw were angles to measure. But, at the moment he died, I watched as he saw something to believe in with utter awe and reverence-finally. Thank you for sharing all this beauty, Father. You are SO STRONG! What a blessing.

My parents never took me to church... they grew up in northern Germany during WWII. They and many of their neighbors seem to have also lost the faith. I do my best to enjoy every moment. As by your videography it seems you do as well. Finding the beauty, the spirit, the source, the God... there, in the moment. And honoring it to the best of my ability. Also honoring other people, plants, food... I am not educated about the bible or God. It seems to me that it is an assembly of old stories - many times translated - some old stories ignored or lost - after a long oral tradition. There is truth in there... there are excellent morals in there. But I would rather walk, ski, bike, sail.. through nature, garden, enjoy a peaceful Sunday breakfast.. then attend church. As my parents did.

Apologies for interjecting politics/society/etc into your thoughts on faith. It's too bad that Jordan Peterson was mentioned. He's a scared white male who thinks that women represent chaos. "Peterson believes that order is masculine and chaos is feminine, and that these qualities are inherent to human existence. To Peterson, culture is "symbolically, archetypally, mythically male," while "chaos-the unknown-is symbolically associated with the feminine." (Wikipedia)

The monologue at the end of this video was the best so far. To answer your last question, of course it happened, but if anyone has any doubts, they should take the time to study and reflect on the contents of the Bible. Eternal life is such a great gift that no one should miss it because of intellectual laziness. Have you ever heard of Darek Barefoot series of videos called “Prophetic Patterns and the Bible: the Special Emphasis of Typologetics”. Very good stuff. Back to your video, the least we can say is that you are not afraid of work. I enjoy each of your videos for the beautiful views of nature, your comments and the skills you display.

I too, have a problem with my floor. The warm humid air condenses on its surface in the warmer months. This moisture is great for growing mold, but terrible for my allergies. John in Bethel, Missouri. USA

Precious Sir and fellow God lover. I know my redeemer lives. I believe the Holy Word of God. I believe in Jesus as son of God, and the power in his blood and name. I love the Holy Spirit, whom dwells in me. I respect the fact that Mary was real and so much more. I believe my assigned guardian Holy Angels of God are ever present in my life. Some of my family was Roman Catholic, some were Southern Baptist, and my husband was Methodist. I dropped all titles of denominations and trust my faith, answered prayers, walk with Jesus, the Holy Spirits leadings, the still small voice of Jesus. My whole life has proved to me there is a God. In Philliaians it states my citizenship is in heaven. I believe I came from heaven and will return. I need no deep phylosophies, or questions. I know what MY daily life has shown me. I love your videos. They say clothes make the man. I see you working so hard in regular clothes and I see you as mountain man next door, relatable. Then I see you in monk robes and I see you, as a sincere respectable man of God. We should all wear our robes, so others would not forget to be respectful and to give more respect and love to our fellow men. God bless you and yours. You have taught me a few things, and I admire your strong sense of self reliance.

I am so enjoying this month by month year series. Selfishly, I hope you are inspired to continue this format, even though you would 'catch up with yourself' in a few more weeks. Then you could post once a month perhaps? Besides, I really want to see all those bulbs when they come up!!! I always enjoy your closing reflections. I do not call myself a "Christian" as I do not belong to any church or denomination. I do however have an extremely personal relationship with both Divine Source, or God, and Jesus the Christ. I do not have any arguments or reasons that have 'convinced me'. I have direct personal and experiential connection. I'm not sure how to explain - I just 'know'. I'm not even sure I'd describe it as 'belief'. I sensed the historical truth of Jesus' life in my teen years, when I learned of him. (I was raised by agnostics who sometimes bordered on atheism). When I was prompted, at a friends bible-study class, to reach out to Jesus, he was palpably there when I did so. They ladies of the bible study asked if I'd ask him into my heart - I was around 13 at the time, and reflected that this was actually an extremely serious thing to choose to do. I was unwilling to lie to them about this thing, and unwilling to undertake it with anything less than my whole being. They offered me an 'out', but I did choose to and felt my heart filled with a presence much larger than 'just me'. This Holy presence had no need of my joining a church. My opinions/perspective/stance are not substantiate-able or in any way sophisticated or intellectual. This is not to say that I am of small intellect, although I don't claim any a towering ability there either. I do ponder and attempt deep understanding. I reflect and spend more time seeking/listening than I do praying/asking-for. When I do pray it tends to be for things such as "help me to hear Thee more clearly, that I may do Thy will more faithfully". I pray for things like acceptance of what is, deeper compassion, more patience... things of that nature. Thank you for all your work in creating this series of posts. They are truly a gift.

The Continent with the most catholics in the world is hispanic or spanish-speaking without mentioning Spain. It is very important that your videos have the option to put subtitles in spanish activated. I imagine that in this way his evangelizing message can reach the other faithful. Thank you so much.

The balcony/terrace on the front of the front of the house, looks like it would lend itself very well to a moveable, swiveling pedestal-mounted telescope!...I could imagine spending hours on a clear day observing the valleys below with a telescope!...and good for observing heavenly bodies at night also...
