Hey! I've taught English in South Korea for 2 years and it's riddled with shady English Academies. It's recommended to speak to the teacher you're replacing when you receive your job offer. Also a lot of research has to be done about the school you're signing with and *pray* it's not bad. Is it similar in Vietnam? Any names to watch out for and avoid? How do you find a good English Academy in Vietnam? Thanks!

If you have a teaching and tutoring experience, you are qualified to teach in Asia. Only the UAE would require a teaching degree, teaching certificate from the state and two years of teaching experience.

Native speakers are apparently “people that English is spoken as their first language in their country”

The work permit is usually for as long as your contact, and you renew it when it expires.

If you get a job you visa won’t take more that 1 month to be ready, as per agent, I dunno if any, I didn’t use any agents.

I’d say from May - August would be the best time cos that’s usually the end of the school/beginning of new school year and schools would be looking for new teachers around that time. As per pay, I think you get paid only the months you work.

Did you use a C1 certificate to get a job in Vietnam because one company I applied to send me a mail that they are impressed with my demo teaching and intro video and I was asked to fill a form for after which I got another mail saying I would need a C1 certificate to process work permit in Vietnam 😢. You get your salary the next month. Most schools pay on the 10th of every month.

No. Not good for that. First, because the government is very strict and does lots of monitoring. Second, because it’s a developing country with low wages and Vietnamese is the native language spoken. Any hustling job you hope to take, the company can hire another Vietnamese person for the same salary or less and they would speak the language and have no communication issues. No advantage to hiring you.
