Great vid! I got a Gweike and would have to agree with you most points as there is a learning curve but that is the tradeoff you make with cost comparison to the glowforge. On another note that puzzle looks really cool, did you make that yourself or is there a program that assist's with the creation of the cut paths?

I just googled SVG puzzle generator, there are a couple of free online generators that you can use. Once I had a few common sizes I just saved them in a Lightburn file.

Totally agree with your assessment, especially that anybody new to laser cutting will need to spend many hours experimenting with what it can do and what material settings to use. I use it primarily with wood and it can cut 16mm oak in one pass. Haven't tried thicker yet. Only issue I have had in 5 months ownership is that I burned the lens after not cleaning it one day (so my fault). Definitely worth upgrading Lightburn to take advantage of the changes. It's so much easier now that all I have to do is enter the actual material thickness. What I'd really love which is missing is a laser light to help with framing before cutting - for the moment I have strips of tape on the front and left hand side of the housing in line with the laser.

Have they fixed the issue with the thickness of material? I know back in December one of the Facebook groups was complaining. It wasn’t working properly. Of course I replaced my lens so the focal length is different anyway.

@@LabcraftStudio definitely working and without problems for me

Try exporting your file as a pdf rather than an svg. I’ve been using light burn for a few years and this file type works really well for me. (No scaling issues). Also, the new version of light burn allows you to simply enter the material thickness in the Gweike cloud rather than performing the math.

Sorry. I should have finished watching the video before commenting on the material thickness.

That’s okay. ^_^ I will try the pdf import some time though!

Very interesting video, thank you! Can I ask you what coolant you use when servicing the machine?

I use this one which was recommended on the George Facebook group: PEAK OET Extended Life Blue 50/50... www.amazon.com/dp/B07GT1VWQ5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Not bad if I may say (I know I cant do better) :D Its a good take on the laser. Just some small tips for you that migth help the folks, see if you can link the lens you use in the description, what camera you use insted, belt specs and what kinde of lube for the rails :D just an idea. One thing I would have recomended to folks that have never used a laser before and I do it in forums, is to get a non expensive machine, like a diode one. Its better to f...... up there then with a machine that cost so much more like a co2.

That’s a really good point with the diode laser. I will also add a list to the supplies I use.

@@LabcraftStudio Im just speaking from experience 😬 I started with a diode laser and used that for a good amount and decided that I needed to umf up the game a bit lol
