My favorite WA campground for small sites. It is on the east side of the Cascade range. Millions of mosquitos hatch from the snow so if you go around mid August many of the mosquitos have died off! The last time I visited, we just had lunch on a picnic table near the entrance and enjoyed the views of the mountain. You are so close, it looks like the mountain takes up half of the horizon.

one adVANture at a time Yeah by creating a border using the Columbia River, they split Oregon and Washington horizontally. But IMHO they should have used the Cascade Range and split the states vertically. The west side would be rainforest and coastal, and the eastern side would have been beautiful high desert and plains.

You even got some bear grass as it was beginning to bloom (starting at about 12.50 there were some along the path, they are the tall white flowers beginning to open up coming out of a base of what looks like a large tuft of grass). Did you know each "bulb" blooms every 7 years? So, it's not often easy to find blooming ones. They also smell really good when they are in full bloom.

Advantures of Roodle: Roodle was really pumped about being out of the van and into the cool trees with water to splash through and drink. He let his pack know how happy he was by running back and forth with unabated joy. He saw how pleased they were with his display and rushed off to scout ahead on the path. The hike was going well until his pack was suddenly lost from him. Roodle moved into protection mode and decided to kept his pack close; never leaving the side of his favorite one. They are somewhat fragile, Roodle knows, and can easily loose their way without his constant guidance and protection, he would not let them get lost again. His vigilance at her side was rewarded with a precious find of the most coveted treasure, the Ball Thing. All in all this place was one of Roodle's favorite places to explore. But then again, most stops are his favorite because any place with his family is his favorite.

Paul Burns We did run into what looked like extreme kayakers camping along a river on the way out. I really liked all the free campgrounds in the area that were close to the pay ones. Plus we noticed at least 6 private camping spots with fire rings after driving around and exploring a bit.

one adVANture at a time Those sites sound very cozy :) I wish I had camped there but I didn’t know about it.....The kayakers were probably going to do the White Salmon. You have a fantastic dog! But you should advise everyone that "pets must always be restrained or on a leash no longer than six feet in length while in developed recreation sites" in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. That includes trails and campsites. And don't forget your "poop-bags". We also have a dog that we camp with, but are often frustrated with campers who feel above the rules and whose dogs are allowed to free-roam leaving "land mines" to distract from the beauty of nature. Always be courteous of those who come after you.
